You should not have any raw fuel spilling, unless the unit is inverted. I suggest that you rebuild the carb, no need to have a fire or explosion.

    Hi DocPlayer,
As mentioned before the carb needs to be removed and cleaned. I think the float is the major problem. Check the needle to make sure it is not sticking and the float itself because it is probably leaking. Shake the float to check if gas has leaked in. Or another way is to wipe the float dry and look to see if you find any places that might be wet. If that is the case and I do think it is, replace the float. I hope this helps you out a bit. Best regards and good luck.

3.5 hp Briggs & Stratton won't run unless I pour gas into carb

This sounds like a problem with the suction. If the air filter is clean then it will need new carb gaskets. There may also be an issue with the pressure being created by the engine.

check your air filter. If it's clogged, the engine will spool up to keep from dying, run for about 15 seconds, then it will happen again. If that's it, just clean the air filter. Solved my problem

The jet in the bottom of the carburetor is clogged up. The engine will prime but after that fuel is burned off, the engine stops. The jet is not allowing fuel to be sucked into the engine.
