Question about Kenmore Dishwashers

Am a builder in Juneau, Alaska. New building codes require hammer arrestors on the pipe or appliance. We would like to know if the Kenmore Elite 1396 comes with built in hammer arrestors?

NO,NEVER does a new appliance come with these extras, its an extra charge for the manufacturer, some locales or ordinances require them and some dont, especially with plumbing and now more than ever the price of copper that these are produced out of is very costly,so to keep $$$$$'s down, you need to add your own during installation

Why does the water supply pipe hammer once when the cistern is full

When the valve filling the cistern shuts off it does so qu icky causing a rapid increase in pressure in the supply pipe this causes a bang in the piping called water hammer. There is a device called a hammer arrestor which, when installed will absorb the shock of the closing valve and eliminate the hammer. It is basically a spring loaded rubber diaphragm. A section of piping in which air was trapped used to be used as an arrestor but over time the air would dissolve into the water and would quit working the new spring loaded diaphragm type are best way to go.
Hope this helps.

What type of hammer arrestor do I buy to fix banging pipes after installing a new Moen posi-temp cartridge?

Banging pipes are a result of improper piping support. If the piping is secured, the banging will stop. If your only option is to install chambers for water hammer, any will do. Their only purpose is to hold air.

Leaking water from underside.Think it is the seal. Kenmore elite top washer 22032100 (118) How do you get the tub out? Thanks Bob

Assuming that you have a basic Whirlpool / Kenmore top load direct drive washer (prefix 110) see the following Sears Parts site for your washer.

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/getModel!retrieve.pd?modelNumber=110.22032100

Following is an illustrated description of how to pull the agitators, pump, transmission and tub.

http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=16&newsdesk_id=137&osCsid=3c7e8512ce834388040aec95dcdb0a56

NOTE:

A number of the diagnostics and repair procedures for these washers require you to remove the agitator(s).

In order to get the agitators out, you need to remove the "Spanner Nut" and "Drive Block".

Many instructions call for a special spanner wrench to remove the nut. However,

You don't need a special spanner wrench. (About $20 retail)

I've used a short 10" pipe wrench (About $9 also good for cracking walnuts) hooked around one of the tabs on the spanner nut and tapped the handle with a hammer to loosen it.

Also, don't directly hit the drive block with a hammer (it's soft metal). Put a short piece of wood under the drive block and tap it up with a hammer.

Just recently, when the water valve that fills the washer closes, there is a loud bang. Otherwise, the washer works just fine. Is this a concern?

This is called water hammer. It is from AIR in the pipes - and the valve on the washer slamming shut.

There are devices that install into your pipes called hammer arrestors.

Check with a plumber to have them installed properly.

With water hammer arrestors in place, there is

The water hammer arrester installed at the washer is not large enough to suppress the water hammer you are experiencing. This could be due to the length of the pipe between the washer and the water heater or the number of turns in the pipe. Water hammer can occur at right angle turns. Install another arrester near the water heater or at a turn where you hear the hammer sound occur.

Water pipes making noise trying to locate

Good luck! If it is "water hammer" and you already have water hammer arrestors (dead end sections of pipe) the the arrestors MUST be water logged - when you drained the system how long did you leave it open after empty? Sometimes it can take a little while for the arrestors to drain after reaching "empty". The proper solution is to get the arrestors working or add more - not trying to find the noise and dampening or muffling it (the arrestors do more than stop banging!)
