Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

Have a Xante Platemaker 3 that keeps coming up with "exit paper jam" in the display when there is no apparent jam. Saw a diagram for the paper jam sensors but it was way to small to use. Any ideas?

I have already done the things suggested. This appears to be a sensor issue of some kind. Is there a diagram of the sensors that I can check out to see if one of them is not working right.

I'm glad that I don't have to pay for further advice on this issue. I had already done everything suggested in the first response. That response wasn't a good effort at solving the problem at all! : (

  • Russ Pankonin Mar 23, 2011

This last solution offered was for a Mitsubishi Silver Platemaker.

The printer is a Xante Platemaker 3 with a constant message of "exit paper jam." I have throughly inspected the machine and there is NO paper jam. A reset on startup won't cure the problem. Bad sensors or fuser?? help.

  • Russ Pankonin Mar 23, 2011

Already tried the reset to no avail.

  • Russ Pankonin Mar 23, 2011

    keep trying.

  • Russ Pankonin Mar 24, 2011

Do you have a diagram of where the paper sensors are, as well as a board diagram? I have an old machine I could use for parts if I knew which sensors to go after.

Thanks-You're advice has been the best.

  • Russ Pankonin Mar 25, 2011

I'm on a Mac so driver setup is different.

  • Russ Pankonin Mar 26, 2011

still trying for a map of sensors

  • Russ Pankonin Mar 28, 2011

People keep mentioning reinstalling the driver. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that for the computer, not the printer. Secondly, I have all but taken the machine apart, including taking out fuser unit, and there is no paper in the machine that me or any of my staff can see. If there is a piece of paper, it has to be tiny. However, the printer was printing fine and had no error messages. When a job was sent, the printer went into error mode "exit paper jam" before the job had even printed.

Hi There and Welcome to Fixya,

EXIT PAPER JAM occurs when there's a media jam happened after the paper has been printed out but before it has been deposited in the output tray. Always remember that even a tiny fragment of paper can cause halt on printing, hence, the error.

Double check on the trays and pull out the covers if necessary then remove any piece of paper found. I have this similar experience with Platemaker 4 and it resolved the issue. I recommend to restart the printer after removing the paper fragments.

Thank you for using Fixya.

Make sure you follow all the places that paper could jam. While it says "exit", that could be misleading. It could be there is paper in front of or after the toner plate.
Just a small torn scrap could do it.
But if there really is no paper, then it would be a sensor.
Most sensors are just light contact switches, and are easily bent or jammed when you pull paper out.
But there can also be light sensors that can just get dirty and need to be brushed off.

Hi pank241,

If the screen display "exit paper jam" keeps coming up it means that, a media jam has occurred after the paper has been printed but before it has been deposited in the output tray. However you already mentioned the you already checked any possible paper jam and have seen none. You might want to consider double checking it by using the procedure I got from the manual. Just kindly click this link. I'm also wondering if you already tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver for your machine? This could also help you address the concern.

Hope it helps.

Thank you for using Fixya.

Hi

Set up again the printer once more and set it as default printer and then try to print the test page. If resolves your problem, the problem is the printer driver got corrupted and not regarding sensor issues.

Hi, well whats wrong is that either the paper sensor has faulted, or the driver/main board for the sensor has, or indeed BOTH may have faulted. This is why there is this false error indication.
There is no other remedy but to replace these sensors with new ones, this must be done, as this will also prove where the fault lays as if new sensors are installed and it is still faulty, then this is indicative of the driver sensor board is faulty too and must be replaced. usually they BOTH need repairs.
This really is a job for a technician, accordingly, my advise is to locate an authorised repair service and get this matter attended to there. if costings are a concern, then simply ask for "Quote" as to the cost of the repair before proceeding with any repair work.

If you see paper jam in your printer then there must be a tiny piece of paper in the printer you can use a low pressure vacuum cleaner or a low pressure blower to remove the piece of paper unplug the power cord while doing the cleaning after cleaning power the system on if you are connecting to the computer remove the usb cord while powering off the printer In the task bar of the computer we will see a printer icon click open and remove all the contents then restart the computer

Hi and welcome to FixYa!

The first thing we are going to try is to reset your printer.

You can reset the printer by holding ONLINE and TRAY SELECT on the front panel during startup . It should display RESET if done properly.

If this does not work for you, please get back to me for further solutions.

I am including the support site itself in this link. It has a full manual for your series the Platemaker.

http://www.xante.com/support/pm3/

If you click on the black arrow on the left side of the page under manual, it gives you a full pdf of your product, how to use, run and trouble shoot.

This page i sent also has links for frequently used trouble shooting questions, phone numbers to contact them and other areas you may be interested in reviewing.

If you need further assistance, please send me a message and we will go from there.

Did you review the pdf i sent you?

You will notice that one of the reasons you may be having problems is because is you lost the information to the RAM from being turned off.

Power on your printer. Set Jam Recover from MISC: JAM RECOVER configuration menu.

Pick yes to enable and NO to factory default.

You can be walked through this step on page 197 from the PDF.

    Let me know what happens.

You may face this problem because of bad sensor or print head jammed.

You can try with power on and press on-line and print mode simultaneously, this is the method of cleaning for this printer head.

It can be from Fuser problem . if paper fails to reach to sensor due to problem of paper feed roller, then you may face this problem, you have to check it. If it doesn't work try a printer repair.

You can get a diagram for Platemaker, check this link :

This usually means that there is a paper jam in the exit area . Follow these instructions to clear it:

Clearing a Back of Paper Feeder Jam

1. Open the feeder's back cover by grasping the notch on the top

side of the cover and pulling down (fig. 11.10).

Caution: The cover may be held in place by two strong

springs or by magnets. If so, hold it open with one

hand to avoid pinching your fingers.
Fig. 11.10
2. Remove jammed paper in back of the paper feeder (fig. 11.11).

3. Close the back cover of the paper feeder (fig. 11.12).
Fig. 11.12

If this does not fix your error, then here is a link to the manual for your product:

http://www.xante.com/support/pm3/MANUALS/PM3V3/complete.pdf

You can find troubleshooting paper jams in chapter 11 - page 285 - 300.

There are 5 different areas that can have a paper jam and it explains how to clear each one.

You asked me for a wiring diagram of the sensors and the link to the product manual that I left in the original question you posted as the diagrams in it.

The manual listed above is for a Xante model not a mitsubishi. There is a way to reset your machine. Did you try this: reset the printer by holding ONLINE and TRAY SELECT on the front panel during startup. If its done correctly you will see the words "reset" across the display panel.

The error codes for paper jams are included in the manual on page 265, 266, 267 & 268. There are 5 types of paper jams. Here they are:

    FRONT PAPER JAM

    EARLY PAPER JAM

    EXIT PAPER JAM

    LATE PAPER JAM

    PAPER JAM

The instructions for each type is located in the manual following the error codes. If your error on the display says just "paper jam" it means that a media jam has occured along the paper path. This does not mean that there is paper stuck there, it can mean other things like the media size your using is getting caught on something else along the normal paper path - or something that guides your media along the paper path is not working and so it wont travel and complete the course.

Isolate the problem to see if the multi feeder is causing it or the regular paper tray by removing all media in the multi tray feeder before you turn the machine on. then turn it on and see if it displays ready and then insert your media. Do the same procedure with the regular feed tray and check to see if you can get a ready message on the display.

There are five places that a paper can get stuck. Are you sure you have checked all five? Including a jam in the multi fuser? if you replaced the multifeeder with the printer turned off, it will not clear the digital read out from saying the paper is jamed. turn on the machine with the multifeeder out and then when you see idle/ready reinsert it to clear the display.

How do i fix the little black piece that broke off of the fuser exit sensor on my Xante Ilumina?

Amanda,
The problem is related to the paper exit assy. Their is no problem with your fuser assy. Take a look at the exit document related to your problem. Usually that is cause when removing a paper jam, that switch flags break for pulling the paper in the back direction. You would have to replace the paper out exit swicth black actuator.

Xante platemaker II paper jam error

Sometimes the sensor which detects paper jams gets knocked out of position during moves. NEVER move a printer while it is on. Don't even slide it around on your desk a little bit. If this is the case, your printer needs a replacement sensor which likely requires a professional to install. It would probably be cheaper to buy a new one anyways.

You can try the following to correct the issue:
1.Get a can of compressed air. As per the directions on the can, dust anything you can get at within the printer without moving or touching the internal mechanisms. It is possible that dust or smoke has gotten onto the sensor and is causing false paper jams.

2.open the rear access panel of the machine. You will see black rollers. With a slightly damp cloth (no paper towels) gently wipe at the rollers. Dirty rollers will not grab the paper properly and this may be confusing the mechanism.

Manual tray feed problem on Xante Platemaker 3 laser printer

You may have to change your settings in the program you're printing from to say "tabloid" instead of the plate size. You basically set everything to make the printer think it's printing 11x17 paper instead of a plate. The only thing I leave the same as a plate is the setting in Quark that says, "Media Type". I leave it on Polyester Plate.

T642 Paper Jam and Check paper stock jamming.

You need to change the paper type when using card stock, plain etc.
As for the paper jams; you need to check the exit sensor at the exit door, also if you have a duplex, 2-3 drawer you also need to check for jams.

Xante cl30 color laser printer paper jam

Remove the fuser and examine it closely (Note: the fuser gets extremely hot. Wait until it has cooled completely before touching it!) Paper or a paper fragment might be balled up inside it.

Even just re-seating the fuser might clear the sensor that is reporting this jam.

If the printer continues to stall with this error code, even though there is no jam, it could have a faulty sensor. This would have to be repaired with a service call...
