How do I tell if the timing belt is bad. I have the covers off. The crank timing mark is at TDC. the cam marks are also aligned When I first got the covers off the timing belt seemed loose and I could...

Timing belts are supposed to be replaced in intervals, on this vehicle every 60,000 miles. The timing belt may look good, but they mostly stretch over time. As for the looseness and becoming tight, its because there is different compression tension that pull either way. But to be loose to the point you can spin the tensioner pulley, replace everything (belt, tensioner, idler pulley, water pump)!!

How do i release the tension belt ... cant seem to find bolt being referred to in other docs

Here's the procedure on how to release and replace the tension belt of your car.

Step 1
  • Open the hood on the Volvo S-60 and find the serpentine-belt routing diagram. The diagram should be attached to the top of the fan shroud that covers the radiator. If not, draw out the exact routing method of the serpentine belt around each pulley with a pen and a piece of paper.
  • Step 2 Locate the serpentine-belt tensioner that is in the very center of the engine. The tensioner will have a square bolt head in the center of the tensioner pulley.
  • Step 3 Slide the open end of the 5/8-wrench onto the square bolt head in the center of the belt-tensioner pulley. Turn the tensioner pulley counterclockwise and slide the serpentine belt off of the tensioner pulley.
  • Step 4 Remove the serpentine belt from the other pulleys and pull the belt out of the engine compartment.
  • Step 5 Slide the new serpentine belt into the engine compartment and around the crankshaft pulley.
  • Step 6 Route the new serpentine belt around each pulley. Turn the belt-tensioner pulley counterclockwise again and slide the serpentine belt around the tensioner pulley. Release the tensioner and it will tighten the belt around the pulleys. Look over the belt to ensure that it is inside of each pulley.
  • Step 7 Crank the S-60 and look over the serpentine belt with the motor running. Let the engine run for about one minute and shut the engine off. Close the hood.

Need to replace serpentine belt on 2000 dodge caravan,,6 cyl,,air,,,, email

OK, do you have a specific question? You'll need to jack up the front right tire and remove it. Pull the wheel well cover off to expose the belt. Use a vice-grip in the tensioner pulley (look for a 1.2 in square on the end of the pulley) to remove tension. Install as the sticker under the hood shows.

Hi, could you please tell how to remove the bottom cover on a 1.6 vw bora......which is covering the bottom pulley for a timing belt change..... does the tensioner need to come off.....? and if so how do...

the one on the engine ?? two bolts either side ,cant remember but yes you may have to remove the fan belt tensioner thinking about it ,quick tip ?? to undo the bottom crank pulley bolt ,use a knuckle bar on socket and jam the knuckle bar into suspension then crank with starter motor ,undoes them everytime it does. Then before you slacken anything to do with the timing ,bring it around to TDC no 1 and paint all the pulleys to the block with white paint ,except the water pump and idlers .

I cant find the tension? I get it on the pulleys,

The tension release pulley, located just below and in front of alternator, has a 1-2 slot in the center of pulley. Insert the 1-2 inch breaker bar in middle of tension pulley and pull up, tension will be released. I hope this helps. Don,t forget to rate my answer, thanks.
