it is the timer which heats the elements to defrost the nonfrost system.

it has a several gears mechanism like in a watch. Once mine was blocked by an ant !! Normally the timer is located on the lower left at the back of the refrigerator.

keep a good record of the wiring before you disconnect ..open clean and refix it should work

On my GE GTH21SCXSS, top freezer bottom refer, the freezer and refrigerator settings are on the coldest settings and the freezer won't go below 15 degrees and the refer won't go below 43 degre

Do you see any ice buildup on the back panel of the freezer? You may need to remove the back panel to see if the coils are iced over. Post back your results.

GE 24 Profile refrigerator: The freezer part

my refrigerator goes into auto defrost every 60hrs for 45 minutes or till the bi metal(defrost thermostat) says it had enough....recently i had ice built up on the coil because my defrost thermostat was stuck open...

ice builds up because the moisture that comes from opening the door or food condenses on the cold coil...tempurature of the coil is below 32 degrees which will ice up the condensed moisture...

defrost is timed to remove this build up

GE Refrigerator Series

Your Ice maker may have a defrost heater stuck and causing to much heat in the freezer. Feel around the bottom of the ice maker see if its warm Not too close it can burn you if its on all the time. If this is the trouble remove it and when you unplug it see if the temp goes back to normal in the freezer.

Please get back to me and let me know if this helped or you still have a problem. Please rate me accordingly and good luck.

GE refrigerator not cold enough, again!

I emptied the freezer, unscrewed the freezer floor, pushed it out of the way, and saw the ice, just like last time. So I poured hot water over the ice, made sure the ice was all melted, even from below (under refrigerator), and put the floor back in - works fine, for now!
