Question about Vizio VO47L 47 in. LCD TV

1 Answer

I have a Vizio VO74L TV almost 3 years old. Last night it popped and the screen went black and lost sound. It turns on and you can hear it click but still no sound and a dead screen. Opened it up and noticed a capacitor on the power board and all capacitors on inverters (master and slave) are blown. There was a burning smell from the power board capacitor and i figured it was from it blowing. Called vizio and they said that the backlight is out due to no light visable throught the back of the unit. I was trying to ask them if the capacitors blowing would cause my problems and they wouldnt say. So, would the capacitors blowing cause the light they are refuring to not light up? If I replace the capacitors should this solve my problems and get the picture and sound back? Any suggestion and help is appreciated!

If the capacitors have blown then it would not cost much to change them all, Capacitors in LCD tv's are a common faulty due to poor chemical compounds used to make them and heat exhaustion, especially with the tvs that have the same chassis. Try changing them all and see if it makes any difference. Vizio or other manufacturers wont say anything as its not under warranty and they dont like people looking inside their tvs :).

There could be a few things that would cause this. I would suspect that you have a problem with either the power supply board or the main board. Based on my experience, the main boards go before the power supplies. What is the model #

This is weird. I also have a plasma 50" model PS5Q91HDX and on the 5/02/11 the screen went blank when my friends daughter was watching a Wiggles DVD. The image kept coming back, flashing a scene or two before going black again. But the sound is perfect.

I wonder what is going on? Is anyone else having trouble with their 3-4 year old Samsung 50" TVs???

I have a Sony 50" WEGA rear projection tv. Last night it made a popping sound and then the screen went black. I could still hear audio at that time. I turned the tv off and now there is a blinking red...

It sounds lamp in tv got broken as you heard pop sound of it, replace lamp in tv to fix the issue.
Blinking light would be Lamp light at tv front that shows lamp is dead.
Lamp replacement procedure is easy and mentioned in tv user manual.
Thanks.

VIZIO TV Black screen. Cannot turn off TV without unplugging.

I had a similar problem after having a Vizio for 2 and a half years. I left the room for a minute, i came back and the screen went black. I didnt hear an arcing sound though. There was still power to the unit and you could see that the back light was working, just no picture, no sound, and you couldn't use any of the buttons. The only way to turn it off was to unplug it. It would then start up, with the Vizio logo going from orange to white, and then do the same thing all over, no pic or sound. I would check the ceramic fuse first on the board that gets power from the plug.

HOW I FIXED MINE: I ordered a new "main PCB" from tigerdirectparts.com (you can also use searspartsdirect.com). This is the circuit board with all of the inputs on it (hdmi, cable, etc.) I opened it up, disconnected the old one, put in a new one and now it works fine.I used both serial numbers on the board to search for it online. It cost me $144 to do it, but that's better than $450 for a new TV. My tv is the vx32l hdtv10a. I hope that helps.
