Follow the prompt for Windows Repair and choose the option "Startup Repair".

If you still can't access your Windows, you can use the system restore option and restore it back to the date prior to having the issue.

Sounds like windows is corrupt, the only way to fix this is to reinstall windows, with some versions you can just go and reinstall windows without removing data.
Hope that helps

My toshba l300 will not boot up it keeps displaying that the hal.dll is missing or corrupt i have tried all options when you press f8 and it keeps going back to same message

Your Windows installation has become currupted. You can repair it with the aid of your Microsoft Windows CD.

Do the following:
Insert the Microsoft CD disk into your computer.( You may need to enter the BIOS and set your CD/DVD drive as the first boot device.)
Press any key when prompted to do so.
Windows will load for a little while and then you will need to press the Enter key to install Windows.

Now press F8 to accept the terms.
Then press R to repair your current selected Windows Installation. This will repair your installation and keep all your settings and files.

Once this is completed it should be back to new.
A technician would be able to complete this repair if you would like, claim warranty support if available.

Take care!

I want to know how to reinstall toshiba portege m200

This is in case you cannot boot into windows but you can get into bios:
Open your disk drive. Insert windows operating system disk into your disk drive. Restart your computer.
If you can get to the stage where you can see see bios entry key then keep pressing whatever key it is that you press to get into bios at start up.
Select the option that let's you choose the drive to boot from, mine is in advanced bios options. then go to either something like bios features or change boot whatever drive represents your CD-ROM drive and select it to be the first boot drive.
then save exit bios, I do this by pressing escape then Y to save and boot from the rom drive.
This will let you restart your installation of windows and
re-format the drive...
If you can boot into windows:
Then either re-format the drive and delete the partition when you do or...
Run a recovery of the system by installing your disk and letting it get to the stage wher it asks what action/task you want to perform and press r when prompted then follow the prompts to repair the files. This might not work though,
you could even try running a disk check as maybe a lucky chance of repair if you can get into windows.
If your PC keeps trying to boot from the CD drive after repair then re-enter bios at start up and change your hard drive back to first boot device to boot into windows.

It's better if you re-format though as repairing windows can be a little tricky.

After switching on, windows does not start properl...

Sounds problem with some System device drivers.

First try rebooting the system in safe mode. If it works, hopefully booting in last good known configuration will solve the problem.

To go select "last good known configuration" boot the system and during POST keep pressing F8, this will bring up "Windows Advance option menu".. move down to select "Last good known configuration"
and hit enter. If this doesnt works follow below instructions

If both of the above doesnt work, try repairing your OS, Follow the below instructions

Insert OS boot CD,
Boot your system from CD ROM.
On the window "Welcome to setup" dont go for repair. Hit enter, and next press and then on next window press R to repair.

Hope this helps

Issues starting up windows XP software, keeps asking to start up in one of 5 safe mode start up. Tried all of these but keeps flashing a message on a blue screen and then goes through same issue all over...

You need to repair your windows.
For that you have to boot computer with recovery disk or windows disk.
When you power up the computer press F1 or F2 or "del" key to enter in bios.
Then go to bootm menu then set first boot device as cd/dvd rom. Then save and exit.
Then put disk then follow the procedure.
Then choose recovery cosole and type in prompt "chkdsk /r"
then press "y"
then it fix eror on harddisk.
Then check.
If still same blue error then again boot computer with disk then follow the procedure then choose repair option for repair previous windows.
Let me know if you need further assistance.

I have a gateway 835gm and when i turn it on. It wont go pass the windows xp screen. it just keeps re-booting.

If you have a windows boot cd, use it to get to the first boot screen where it asks you if you want to repair it or install XP. Try repair first and run check disk. If this doesnt work, then instead of pushing repair, press ENTER and do a reinstallation repair.

If you dont have a windows boot cd then you can download this ISO and burn it to a CD. It will boot and allow you to have a lot of diagnostic programs.

Go to this site and make a bootable cd. Once you have made it, go to the diagnostic category for hard drives. Run check disk first, then run the other ones if necessary. If it is a problem with the fileing system, then one of these tools will probably fix it.

Startup repair

Did you try using Safe Mode? Hit F8 when its booting and choose safe mode. See if that will let you boot into the OS.

It will not boot it keeps going back to this screen were it has all the booting options and i have tried all of them and it just keeps going back to the same screen

this is normally either a virus or an error in the registry in windows your best bet is to either get a windows disk and run the repair sequence to make it so you can boot the computer up and get what files you need of the computer then reload the operating system or have somebody do it for you.

Missing or corrupt hal.dll file, so can't boot the hard drive

Please use the recovery discs or windows installation cd.

To either perform a full system restore with the recovery discs.
Or to perform a repair installation with the windows installation cd.

Boot the computer using the XP CD. You may need to change the boot order in the system BIOS so the CD boots before the hard drive. Check your system documentation for steps to access the BIOS and change the boot order.
When you see the "Welcome To Setup" screen, you will see the options below
This portion of the Setup program prepares Microsoft
Windows XP to run on your computer:
To setup Windows XP now, press ENTER.
To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R.
To quit Setup without installing Windows XP, press F3.
Press Enter to start the Windows Setup. do not choose "To repair a Windows XP installation using the Recovery Console, press R", (you Do Not want to load Recovery Console). I repeat, do not choose "To repair a Windows XP installation using the Recovery Console, press R".
Accept the License Agreement and Windows will search for existing Windows installations.
Select the XP installation you want to repair from the list and press R to start the repair. If Repair is not one of the options, END setup.
Setup will copy the necessary files to the hard drive and reboot. Do not press any key to boot from CD when the message appears. Setup will continue as if it were doing a clean install, but your applications and settings will remain intact.

Thanks and good luck.
