Question about Gigabyte GA-945GM-S2 Motherboard

1 Answer

4 x 512 DDR2, shows only 1GB

I had a Gigabyte GA-945GM-S2 with 2 x 512 DDR2 667MHz.
I bought another 2 x 512 DDR2 667MHz. Same type, size, speed and producer.
With the 4 x 512 DDr2, computer shows only a total of 1gb RAM, instead of 2Gb.
If i put 3 x 512, total is correctly, 1,5gb.

Why don't you look at the support section of the Gigabyte website? That is where you will need to go to download it anyway.

Can you mix 1gb and 2gb dimms in the same machine (for a total of 6gb)? I added two 2gb 1066 DDR2 dimms (''OCZ'') to a PC that already had two 1066 DDR2 1gb dimms (''Kingston''). I moved the 1gb dimms to...

Your MB is AM3 with 128MB DDR3-1333 built-in, four 1.8 Volt DDR2-1200+ depending on cpu. Have you enabled cpu 64 bit extensions? Tried slowing down your memory bus?
My ASUS use dual channel for dual core cpu. I have 2 yellow and 2 black dimm sockets. Both dimms in yellow is single channel, one in yellow and one in black is dual channel. Might try 2,1,2,1 rather than 2,2,1,1 order. If only your 2 1GB dimms are seen then why do you get 4 GB from 1GB+1GB? Sounds like sockets 1,2 are giving you 4GB and 3,4 don't work? Are the 1GB+1GB in 3,4 visible if the dimms in 1,2 are removed? Per Gigabyte page your AMD Phenom II 920 is AM2+ : "Note: Due to AMD AM2+ CPU limitation, memory module DDR2 1066 or above speed is only supported by 1 dimm per channel." Per AMD (which does not show your cpu, AM3 cpu fit AM3 or AM2+ socket and support ddr2 and ddr3, AM2+ cpu only work in AM2+ socket and support ddr2 only.

Memory up-grade

you can go max 2GB (1GB each) DDR333 PC2700.
you have to reset the bus rate to match the RAM speed.

if you stay with DDR266 then you don't have to reset the bus rate
