Question about Yamaha RX-V863 Receiver

1 Answer

I have an RX-V863 and sometimes when I turn the system on with my Harmony remote the receiver continually blinks like it is not getting a good signal and I have to turn the receiver off then back on to get it to work right. Is there a problem with my receiver or is it a cabling problem?

Hi,
Problem seems in standby power supply board and most likely leaky capacitor(s) or cold/ dry solder connections in that circuit board. It is hardware problem and does not look like speaker wires or connection cables fault.
Hope this will help.
Thanks.

Hi, I have a Yamaha rx-v450 amp that won't change sound modes (stereo, hall, jazz, rock etc) from the remote control but it works from the buttons on the unit. I've checked my remote by pointing it...

Hi! Transmitting doesn't mean it's working, What you should do to test it is use a good quality universal remote such as a Logitech Harmony and first program the preset code for your receiver into the Universal Remote. If that works, you know your OEM remote has gone bad, at least for those buttons. If it doesn't then you you should attempt to have your Universal Remote "learn" the IR signals from your receiver's remote If the controls still don't work, there is a problem with either your IR receiver on your receiver or the the circuitry that proceesses the signals into commands. Good Luck!

Hello: I have a Yamaha RX-V863 Receiver for 3 years. I try to on my receiver, but he start on, only for 2 or 3 second and then turning off immediately. I verify the wall outlet and the power in my house...

There is a load on the system, turn receiver off, disconnect speaker wires from the back, power on and turn volume right down. If the system stays on it means there is a short in the wires or one or more of the speakers. But if turns off with"wires and speakers diconnected" there is a short in one or more of the audio output ic's in the receiver and will need a professional to find out the extent of the problem.

Do you have all 5+1 speakers connected? You need to go to the Setup menu of yamaha and set which speakers you have and which you don't. For example if you don't have the Center speaker connected, receiver will redirect and mix the sound to the other speakers.
Blue-ray film over HDMI should automatically output via all your configured speakers (nothing to be configured).

No video from RX-V863

This reciever might not upconvert component or composite to hdmi, which means if you have anything but hdmi hooked up you will not see it. Check your manual for what all the reciver will ouput.

Video Monitor

Check the Setup menu. Goto Video setup and make sure "conversion" is on. Another way to test is to hook up DVD, Cable Box etc. using only the standard "composite" video output (yellow). It should pass thru monitor out regardless of the internal setting on the receiver. Most electronics now are hooked up with Component, HDMI, or DVI which would require the receiver to downconvert the signal in order for you to view it on another video source. Hope this helps. If you still have a problem, list all your equipment model #s and I can troubleshoot more accurately.
