Question about Canon EOS 400D / Rebel XTi Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens
When taking a photo the other day a cloud of dust blew over me and got my focusing screen dirty so I tride to clean it, by doing this I think I damaged it as the red focusing lights are very faint now, infact I can hardly see the them. Please can you give me some information on how to replace the focusing lens with a new one.
It sounds as if you must have had the lens off to get the focussing screen dirty. If not, it could be that you have dirt on the eyepiece you look through. The best thing for that is a soft brush to whisk away any dust on the eyepiece. you mention at the end of the question you need information on how to replace the focussing lens. It sounds as if you are not sure which bit of the camera is which, as the focussing lens is the one on the front of the camera where the light for the picture comes into the camera, and has rings around it which you turn and focus the picture while you look through the viewfinder at the back of the camera. If it is mucky, you need to blow the dust off the front of the camera lens with a blower brush, or a soft brush, or blow through a drinking straw onto the lens to clean as much off as you can. Don't try to clean it with a heavy hand, as it needs to be cleaned as carefully as possible, or any scratches will make the picture less good than it should be. My best advice is to take it to a camera shop and ask their advice, but first read up a book on basic photography and see how to look after a camera, and make sure you know basically how it works. You may find the shop will want to take it in for servicing, but first I feel you need to learn more about cameras. If you actually mean the screen, then I would definately take it to a camera shop to have them replace the screen with a new one - it needs you to understand the camera well though before you start, or you can ruin the screen quite easily, as they are delicate and fine items.
good luck with your photos!
