In digital TV, a broadcast channel can be broken up to carry several different programs. When a channel is subdivided into multiple streams or programs, each stream is called a subchannel.

I have 2 bellsouth 2250 walkie talkies and have set them both to the same channel and subchannel, but cannot get them to communicate. What am I doing wrong?

Nothing. You have already said channel, which is frequency and sub channel, which is called a lot of things. You are 99% ahead! My best guess: turn them Off and On. Then check the channel and subchannel again. One of the radios did not save the information or lock it into the memory. The On/Off cycle may save it and they will work! Let's cross our fingers. But do not hesitate to reprogram them as many as 3-5 times and look for a SAVE feature in the manual. Best of luck!

Antenna

Older TVs require a converter box to receive digital signals; newer ones have the converter built in. If you cannot receive digital subchannels such as X.1, X.2 and so on chances are good that you need a box

Can the gmrsx1 talk to the hjc-frs

Yes, the Chatterbox is a GMRS / FRS Radio transmitter. If both radio transmitters are tuned to the same channel/subchannel, they should have no problems interacting.

On some stations I get picture but no sound. Sound works on all other stations. I have another tv and sound is fine on all of them. Any ideas?

Try resetting the TV to the default settings (Menu > Setup (Options) > Memory Recall (Restore Default), select Yes and then Enter. Exit the menu to save.) Then rescan all channels. The Setup or Options menu icon looks like a wrench and hammer forming an X.

My Viewsonic TV uses the commands in the parantheses but the current manual for the model gives new command names. The above commands worked to solve the problem for me. (In my case, one digital subchannel had video but no audio but the sister subchannel had audio but no video.)

I hope this helps.

One cannel has picture but no sound

This could be a synch problem. Try resetting your TV to the default settings, then exit the menu (to save) and then rescanning for channels. Usually the menu item for this is Setup or Tools.

I hope this helps.

(I had this happen on a different TV and the reset worked. In my case, a digital station had one subchannel with no video and sound and the other subchannel had video but no sound.)

I can't get the 2 way radios on the same channel

Press the Menu button. The channel number will flash. Press the adjust keys to select the channel number. Press the menu key again and the Subchannel number will flash. Set to desired number. Then press the push-to-talk key to get out of menu mode. Repeat with second radio and be sure to choose the same channel and subchannel. Then adjust volumne as needed.
have fun!

What are subchannels used for?

You are referring to the 38 interference eliminator codes. They are used like a filter of sorts. When you program your radio to have any code other than zero, you are overlaying a signal which will only open the receiver on radios which are set identical. So if you are using your radio in an area where there is a lot of radio traffic, you can block out hearing the other users by setting a CODE. They will still be there on your frequency. You will just never have to hear them. (Note: if their code is set to zero they will still hear you.) If you set your code to zero, you are in what is called open squelch or CSQ, you will hear all radio traffic on your frequency.

My motorola talkabout(1998)will not connect to eachother what is the secret.I do not have a manuel. these have never been used.I think the codeing between the 2 must be off.

Check that both the channel and subchannel match between the radios. depending on your specific model, the channel should be between 1 - 14 , and the subchannel should be between 1 - 38. If this does not work I will need the specific model number to assist further.

Nhens convertor box www.dsconter.com

Posting regarding the NHENS converter in January 2009. Bought it at Radio Shaft and it works -- feeding an old Panasonic b/w TV on channel 3. Live within 25 miles of the Empire State Building and the converter has managed to pick up and lock up on all NYC signals but channel 13. Also brings in channel 41 (licenced to NJ) and its subchannels plus the nearby channel 58 and its NJN-2 subchannel. Antenna is an amplified indoor rabbit ears with a loop also from Radio Shaft perched atop a kitchen cupboard on the 2nd floor of our house. Apparently, NHENS managed to correct the above referenced problems.
