Unfortunately, you will not be able to upgrade your processor by a substantial amount. The HP support website for the Pavilion a775c (http://bit.ly/heigtm) states that the motherboard only supports Pentium 4 processors up to 3.6GHz, including the HT series of processors. While the motherboard's socket (LGA775) can support later processors, the motherboard itself cannot. The problem with upgrading lies with the fact that Pentium 4 processor series only supports a single core.

The only upgrade you would be able to make to the processor is to replace it with the Pentium 4 HT 662, which runs at 3.6 GHz. This is not recommended, as the performance difference from such an older series of processors like the Pentium 4 is nearly negligable. Instead of looking to upgrade, you should be looking to purchasing a new system with support for a more up-to-date processor.

Depends on the socket type.. Socket 423 and 478 do not support core duo or quad core processor types. However, if you have LGA 775 (aka socket T) your motherboard will support the following:
Intel Pentium 4 (2.60 - 3.80 GHz)
Intel Celeron D (2.53 - 3.60 GHz )
Intel Pentium 4 Extreme Edition (3.20 - 3.73 GHz)
Intel Pentium D (2.66 - 3.60 GHz)
Pentium Extreme Edition (3.20 - 3.73 GHz)
Pentium Dual-Core (1.40 - 3.33 GHz)
Intel Core 2 Duo (1.60 - 3.33 GHz)
Intel Core 2 Extreme (2.66 - 3.20 GHz)
Intel Core 2 Quad (2.33 - 3.00 GHz)
Intel Xeon (1.86-3.40 GHz)
Intel Celeron (1.60 - 2.40 GHz)

Base processor
Intel Pentium4 550 (P) 3.4 GHz

800 MHz Front side bus
Hyper Threading technology
Socket 775 (Grantsdale) ( that's your Processor PC )

for Upgrade to Dual Core or Quad Core, not just on socket Processor compatible but your Motherboard must be Compatible with their processor.

Evga sr 2 only will go on one processor.what to do.

Download, and install CPU-Z (From CPUID.com), if you have not already.

Open CPU-Z

Now multitask with your computer.........

Open your email.........look at a video on YouTube........stay on here.....

Get several threads going at the same time.

Or play an intensive game.....

Now look at the CPU tab on CPU-Z

See how both Processor cores are now running?

That is for a dual core processor. It's going to take a bunch more for a quad core.

Using a dual core processor for searching the internet, or watching videos; is like using a fuel dragster to run down to the store.

You need multiple threads open, to get the second core to kick in.
Apply to a quad core also.

Single core 2.8ghz xeon to quad core cpu

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xeon#Prestonia

"In 2002 Intel released a 130nm version of Xeon branded CPU, codenamed "Prestonia". It supported Intel's new Hyper-Threading technology, and had 512KB L2 cache. This was based on the "Northwood" Pentium 4 core."

Meaning it is a Single-Core processor.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_Xeon_microprocessors#.22Prestonia.22_.28130_nm.29

Scroll down.

400MegaHertz Front Side Bus. (400MHz FSB)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xeon#7300-series_.22Tigerton.22

"The 7300 series, codenamed Tigerton (product code 80565) is a four socket (packaged on Socket 604) and more capable ->
QUAD-CORE processor.................."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_Xeon_microprocessors#.22Tigerton.22_.2865_nm.29

1066MegaHertz Front Side Bus. (1066MHz FSB)

The motherboard uses the Intel E7505 motherboard chipset,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Xeon_chipsets#NetBurst-based_Xeon_chipsets

Note the - Processor FSB supported -

533MegaHertz

ONLY supports Single-Core processors, too.

Intel Core 2 Quad 8200 with a 945GCT-M3? Will it work?

Hello here is the homepage:

http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Product/Product_Detail.aspx?CategoryID=1&DetailID=719&DetailName=Feature&MenuID=1&LanID=0

Here you can see the supported cpu list.

The quad core cpu will not run on this mainboard.

Here is info about the quad cpu:

http://ark.intel.com/products/36547/Intel-Core2-Quad-Processor-Q8200-4M-Cache-2_33-GHz-1333-MHz-FSB

But you can add a Intel Core 2 Extreme LGA775
This should give a noteable difference compares to the old single core cpu.

Remember also to buy a bigger cpu cooling element.

Here is no upgrade for the bios.

Good luck

Not everything works with everything else. There will always be compatibility issues especially with motherboards and cpus. U have different circuitry, pin configurations, power requirements, ad infinitum.

CONFUSION WITH INTEL CORE DUO AND INTEL PENTIUM DUAL CORE!

You are worrying about nothing.

Intel Pentium Dual Core and Intel Celeron Dual Core are both Intel Core Dual processors.

The performance rate is mesured compared to a single core processor so your 2.2GHz dual core will do the same amount of work as a 4.95GHz single core.

Intel cpu comparable to "Dual Core AMD Opteron 1212HE"

This is an AMD 2nd generation Opteron CPU, running at 2GHz. It is a single core device. So a comparison would be against Intel business CPU - the Xeon, again compare against a single core.

Cpu to support sse2

Highest model cpu your board can support is the AMD Athlon XP model 3200. This is not a dual core cpu. You would need to upgrade to a newer motherboard in order to use a dual or quad core cpu. Hope this helps.
