Question about GE GSL25JFPBS Side by Side Refrigerator
This refrigerator stopped making ice cubes. While checking the icemaker I found the heater element to be extremely hot. I shut the icemaker off by lifting the arm and then, a couple of hours later, lowered the arm to restart the icemaker. Since then the element has remained cold. The chilled water dispenser is functional but dispenses the water at room, rather than chilled, temperature. Also, there was some water puddling beneath the unit. I reseated the water filter and the puddling has stopped.
The ice maker won't work if the freezer is warmer than 17 degrees so that's not an issue till you get the freezer cold again. I would guess that your unit is stuck in the defrost cycle. This could be the defrost timer failing. See if you can find the defrost timer in your unit and advance it by hand if possible. http://www.partselect.com/PartSearchResults.aspx?modelnum=jcd2295hes&mfgmodelnum=&fkmfgid=1&hint=defrost

its possible that your water tank has frozen up, try turning the refrig off and leave the doors open for about 10-15 mins and try it again. if that works just reset temp controls a little lower..

yea! I have been without cubes for 2 years. I slid out the tray, found the lever in the back where the rod went in, pulled it down, reinserted the ice tray, and IT WORKED! At first I thought I broke the lever, because I had to hold it down with a knife while I was inserting the tray, but it just must have been stuck. I am soooo happy!

I had this problem with a similar refrigerator. The problem was the slide switch burns itself especially if you slide it from ice to water while holding the glass in to get ice and water into your glass. Better to slide it to ice, press the glass in to get ice, release the glass to stop the ice, slide the switch to water, then press the glass in again to get water. I "fixed" mine by removing the control panel and soldering some of the connections on the slide switch together so that we now have no crushed ice function, but the ice cubes work again. You can also replace the circuit board in the control panel to restore it to like-new operation. I could not find a place to order just the slide switch.
Not sure if this is the same problem with your unit, but sounds the same.
