Question about Stihl Garden

2 Answers

I have a 180 Sthil chain saw about one yr. old. I used it all summer and part of the fall cutting tree limbs. Worked great until the oiler stopped working. Sthil repair shop checked it out and said it was the oiler needed to be replaced. I replaced it with the same type oiler. Still didn`t work. Then the repair guy said I needed a over size oiler. so I bought a over size oiler. Still dosen`t work, it just blows bubbles with a very small amount of oil. I checked the line, and pulled the oil tank and cleaned it out. nothing worked What next? Jim

Yes, I checked both. First I took the oil tank out, cleaned it and blew it out with air. Then I checked the rubber air inlet bleeder. All was OK. Thanks for your comment anyway.

You need a Stihl shop to do this. The oilers you get online and on eBay will not work correctly as well as there being a specific way they are inserted into the saw that will not allow them to do anything in installed incorrectly. You're gonna have to bite the bullet and bring it in.

How to stop sawdust from coming into the carburetor section and how to adjust the chain oiler. chain seems dry.

Check to ensure the oil opening on the side of the saw housing is not plugged as well as the matching oil groove in the guide bar first. Turn the saw upside down and see if there is a + and a - sign near the sprocket on the bottom. If so, turning towards the + increases flow. Most new small saws oilers are non-adjustable.

What's the best way to use my 16 in electric saw to cut off tree limbs?

This is somewhat subjective. Eveybody does it a little different. If you are cutting limbs from a tree, start an undercut about where you want the limb to fall free of the tree. Use the upper edge of the chain to cut it about a fourth of the way through. Then start from the top of the limb over where you made the undercut.

Remove the new chain and compare it against the old one. Do the new drive teeth match the 'pitch' of the old chain? If incorrect, the chain cannot be adjusted properly and will 'climb' over the sprocket due to the chain teeth not matching the teeth on the drive sprocket. Getting the proper chain is the answer in this case. Hope this helps!

When i use the electric saw and put a load on the chain it stops

The problem you have isnt adequately explained.

  1. You may be tripping a thermal overload.
  2. The chain may be to agressive and overpower the motor.
  3. The chain may be excessively tight, that combined with the load may be the cause.
  4. Limbs as the cut progresses, pinch the bar and chain.
  5. No bar oil or defective oiler.
  6. If equipped with a clutch it may be slipping.
There are other causal factors too. Read your manual, limbs require 2 cuts, the first from the bottom about ½ way through, then offset a couple of inches toward the trunk from the top . HTH

Battery fully charged but pole prunning saw does not work at all poles are connected properly

You do not mention the model number.
Honestly, I had never used a pole saw, but I needed to cut down a lot of tree branches and Black+Decke worked wonderfully. With it being cordless I could easily walk around my entire yard without worrying about it. The chain does loosen after cutting through several limbs, but it's super easy to tighten back. It's easy to assemble.

Saw will not cut , chain stops turning when chain touches wood

If your saw has a removable sprocket, Check the drive sprocket on the clutch drum. Either the the spline is worn or the drive link on the chain is not properly seated in the sprocket well.

My guess is that one of your fuel lines has a crack or small hole in it. Inspect these and replace if needed. let me know how it goes.
