Question about Crown XS500 2-Channel Amplifier

1 Answer

I have a crown xs500 amplifier. The right side stopped working. I got the "clip" light and the green light for about a minute as I was testing it, then both lights are out all together. This happened as I plugged in a mic with the mute button on so the system wasn't clipping or being over pushed. Can I fix this myself? If not, what might be wrong with it?Thanks for any help!

With a crown amp it can be any number of things. I would recommend having a service center test it and send it back to you. Working with the interior of a commercial amp can be hazardous because of the size of the capacitors inside of it. For the future I would recommend always having the amp turned of for any connection or disconnection of equipment.

I have a crown Itech 4000 and when I plug it in it the green light around the front power button does not light up and when I turn on the power button on the front only the blue "power" light...

Nice amp. There is a breaker/switch on the back that trips to protect the amp. Turn it off, then back on and see if the green indicator comes back. If the breaker trips again, that's probably an indication of a more serious internal problem.

The clip light turn on with low music, what the wrong with that?

it could be you are missing 1 side of the supply which would cause the output to be low but the clip light to come on

CROWN CE1000- slips into fault immediately after connection

if ur output power amp is defective u will have that problem - meaning the moment u connect load across it it will go into circuit protection to limit/stop excessive output current. make sure the speaker terminals are connected to +/- output terminals. in bridge mode use only channel 1 and that too with 4 ohms speaker only otherwise amp will clip. considering all connections are okay if it still clips when speaker is connected, u have a faulty power amp section. this the way ur amp is designed

Because one side of the amp lights up red and the other green

One side is in protect if your wired in stereo. The other side is working fine. You have to take that to an experienced electronics technichan that deals with pro audio. It will cost you 40+ dollars for a diagnosis but that amp is probably dead.I would suggest save up for a crown or qsc amp.

I have a crown ce4000 amp. it turns on,but both the fault lights & clip lights are on.i was wondering what could be the problem & what is an estimted cost to repair this amp.

I believed you got 1 or 2 electrolytic capacitors were dry out so it missed 17V + or -- regulators in the preamp sections that why both side light are on If you go to 1 of the service center Crown in your town it would cost you between $100 to $200 I use Australian dollars

Crown IT 4000 from ROMANIA

make cleaning to your filter by air blower------- keep good ventilation around in the pass of air(in-out)----after you finish try to test your amp by connecting one speaker only at a time until you find the bad one--------------if all above did not pass you will have internal problem of hardware and needs service center.

Is it clipping for real or overheating ? It may just be a fault with the indicator light circuitry itself. Make sure the input levels of the amp are matched with the output levels of whatever device is running into the amp, they will either be +4 dbm or -10 dbu, if you have a choice you want them to be set at +4 dbm. Crowns are professional amplifiers and withstand years of hard touring on the road, it would definitely be worth it to take it to a good repair shop if you can't remedy the problem yourself.

clipping as indicated by its light? if so then you have overdriven your output. i dont know about Crown their protection but normally such indication you have problem with either your load speakers maybe shorted but still audible or maybe your input stage overdriven also.
