It sounds like the light engine is going bad if you still have a warranty call and get a tech to repair before the warranty runs out. If no warranty it can still be repaired but it can be very expensive. anywhere in the 600 to 1000 range, sometimes better to replace tv depending on costs

My Sony Grand Wega LCD TV currently has a large blue spot on the left side of the screen when powered on. I have changed the lamp, but this did not solve the problem. Could this be caused by bad component...

Hi,
I'm afraid, it is problem of optics unit block (light engine), there are 3 LCDs red-green-blue for color picture formation and blue LCD sounds bad, please call local TV tech for fix.
Thanks.

Couloured spots on screen

Hi
sounds like you have colour impurity problems caused by a magnetic feild being near the Screen. Fist check for any new magnetic feilds nearby. If there have been no new changes, it may also be a faulty PTC device that automatically degausses the tube. When they fail, you will get problems with impurities by way of coloured spots on the screen.
Try disconnecting the set off at the wall for 30 mins, this will initiates the auto degauss process. If all is ok, the spots will be gone. If not, you will need to have someone handy with a soldering iron that is also familiar with TV repair to replace the PTC for you.

Please rate this solution. Happy to answer any other questions you may have. Cheers.

Large yellow spot in center of tv screen

Sorry, but there is no cheap method of repair for this unless it is in warranty.

This TV will require replacement of the LCD Prism unit.

This Prism blocks and allows colors so that the 3 LCD images may be mixed to produce the final image you see on the screen. When this becomes damaged or defective, it leaks colors (light). This Color Leakage apears as spots on the screens.

Where you see the spots is where the specific spot on the prism that is leaking light, the specific color that is leaking also.

This parts cost alone is normally $500 to $1000 dollars but is usually replaced under warranty.

Good luck.....

Sony WEGA 42" LCD TV

Uh Oh! blue screen of death. Your light engine has warped a little from overheating and is distorting the picture.

My suggestion to you is to get on the phone with Sony and start complaining, then keep complaining until they agree to pay for it. Even if it is out of warranty.
You may have to get the problem diagnosed by a pro before they agree to pay for it though.
Hope ya fix it!

Sony WEGA 42" LCD TV

If these are oth LCD projection have them looked at. The light engine will need to be relaced and has an extended warranty on some models for this case. Call Sony with the serial and model to verify and they can tell you in your area who is a qualified Sony servicer. Circuit City can handle these if they are covered by the light engine warranty.
