Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

My LG 60PZ550 Plasma HDTV turns on sporadically when connected to my U-Verse STB via HDMI cable. This does NOT occur when the STB is either disconnected from the panel, or when connected to the panel with component video cables. No other HDMI device (ie: Blu-Ray player, DVD player, HTiB) seems to exhibit this issue with the panel, only the U-Verse STB. Any suggestions?

The U-verse STB is connected to the 2Wire router via ethernet (no coax is used anywhere in the system), then HDMI cable to my LG panel. I've seen some other queries on the web about similar issues with the U-Verse STB and it appears that the STB may generate CEC messages whenever there is an internal U-Verse event (recording, stop, update, update guide, new IP, etc.)

Oh, and the 2Wire router is connected via staion wire to the AT&T network interface panel...still no coax in use.

you may have to switch to component cables to get rid of the tv turning off and on. try going into the menu of the tv and turn off any hdmi start up options.

I have started setup for hd cable. Am connected to hdmi and have picture and sound but am unable to change channels. What do I need to do.

With the HDTV set for an HDMI Input that matches the HDMI Jack that you've connected to the cable HD STB (set-top-box or "converter"), use the cable STB remote to change channels on the STB - not the TV.

You can not change channels of the STB with your TV remote. You may however, be able to program your STB remote to operate your TV. Most will allow you to power the TV on / off; volume up / down / mute; change input (HDMI1 / HDMI2 / ANT / Composite / etc.) and even some of the more complex functions as well. Contact your cable company for more details.

I have hd picture but no sound, tv says hdmi audio unavailable

I called Verizon and exchanged my STB from a QIP 6416 to a QIP 7216 and it solved the HDMI audio problem. This looks like the fix.

Denon AVR-488 , problems routing cable box through receiver to tv

If you don't have one, the manual is available online: http://static.highspeedbackbone.net/pdf/AVR-488-OM-E_101.pdf

Suggestions:

1. Reset to default values. Per page 36 of manual: 1. Turn off Power. 2. Press Power while simultaneously pressing Speaker A and Speaker B. 3. Once the display starts flashing at intervals of about 1 second, release the two buttons.

2. Make sure you have AM or FM radio reception. This makes sure your speakers, amps, etc are connected and working correctly.

3. Connect DVD player to HDMI 1 in and TV to HDMI Monitor Out.
Play a known good DVD that works when you connected the DVD directly to the TV via HDMI.

Select the DVD/HDP input on the receiver and play the DVD. You should not have to perform any input assignments, etc. It should just work, as HDMI1 is the default system setting for DVD.

4. If possible, obtain a STB with HDMI out & repeat step 3 using the HDMI2 TV/CBL input. Keeping the signal path all digital (HDMI) will give you a better picture quality than forcing several analog to digital conversions (component video is analog).

4A. To use the component connection, first test by connecting the STB directly to the TV via component video/audio if possible. This tests that the component video output of the STB is working correctly.

Next, remove direct connection and connect via receiver. Connect STB to receiver as shown on page 13 in manual. Connect component video output from STB to component video input #2 (tv/cbl) on receiver. Connect the STB audio output to the corresponding tv/cbl audio inputs.

Make sure nothing is connected to the HDMI2 input or to any other TV/CBL inputs (composite video, s-video, digital coax audio).

Now select the TV/CBL input and turn on the STB. You should have both audio & video.
