First, try adjusting the screen contrast. Turn the calculator on (or at least press the ON key). Hold down the C key and repeatedly press the + key to darken it.

If that doesn't do it, try reseting the calculator. Turn the calculator on. Hold down the C key and press the GTO key.

If that doesn't do it, use a thin pointed object (unfold a paper clip or use a sewing needle) and press the reset hole on the back of the calculator.

If that doesn't do it, the calculator may need servicing (or replacement).

My calculator won't turn on the batteries are fresh plz help

TI calculators have an annoying habit of dimming the screen when the batteries are changed so that it appears as if the calculator isn't turning on. Turn the calculator on (or at least press the ON key). Press and release the 2ND key. Press and hold the Up-arrow key for a few seconds and see whether the screen becomes legible. Does it?

My calculator has fresh batteries and will not turn on, it has normally worked before and now it just randomly stopped working.

Did you change the AAA batteries and the internal back up battery? It may sound unnecessary, but sometimes these devices are a little picky. I would also check that the contrast and brightness setting is appropriate. I fixed my dad's just by hitting second and up on the arrow to make the font show up again.

If neither of those work, try these:
(These will reset the calculator and erase the memory)

Remove one of the AAA batteries, hold down on the DEL key while reinserting the AAA battery. The handheld might display "Waiting...Please install calculator software now". If you get this message, the information in the "Correcting the Error Waiting" section shown below will help you correct the problem. Before trying that procedure, reinstall one of the AAA batteries again. This time do not hold down the DEL key.

Remove one of the AAA batteries, press and hold the [on] key for 10 seconds, release, replace the battery, then turn the unit on. Adjust the contrast.

Remove the AAA batteries for three hours. After the three hour period, reinsert the batteries and turn the handheld on. Adjust the contrast if necessary.

My ti-84 calculator wont react to anything and it says garbage collecting. i think the bar on the side should move and its not moving and its been like this for several weeks. i did download a whole pile...

I remember this happening once to my TI-83. I know it's a different calculator. But it happened frequently. Without completely reconfiguring the calculator, you can remove the batteries whenever you see the message and when you start it up again, it should be okay. It may continue to display this message once in a while. I used to just remove the batteries. I don't know if it will work on your TI-84 the way it worked on my TI-83, but I hope this helped!

I have a TI84 plus texas instruments i have removed both the batteries in order to reset the unit but it still has not resetted the unit. All I am getting all zeros on the screen

First try removing all four AAA batteries and the small lithium backup battery (above the four AAA batteries). Leave all batteries out for five minutes, then replace them and try to start the calculator. If this doesn't work...

Replace all but 1 AAA battery. Press and hold the "CLEAR" button on the calculator. While holding the "CLEAR" button down, replace the missing AAA battery. While still holding the "CLEAR" button, turn the calculator on. The display should read "RAM Cleared". Release the "CLEAR" button and press again to remove the message.

If that doesn't work, remove 1 AAA battery again. Repeat the preceding instructions with the "DEL" key: With the battery removed, press and hold the "DEL" key. With the "DEL" key held down, replace the battery and turn the calculator on. The screen should say "Waiting... Please install calculator software now." Release the "DEL" key. Download this program onto your computer (from Texas Instruments). Connect the calculator to the computer using the USB cable provided with purchase. Run the TI OSDownloader program and follow the on-screen instructions to re-install the calculator's operating system.

How do you get it apart, to replace the battery?

To replace the battery on a TI-30XA, you'll need a Phillips screwdriver with a small head.

First, take off the cover and turn the calculator over so you're looking at the back. Then take out the screws that are holding the back of the case on, and place them somewhere safe.

You should now be able to see the old batteries; remove them and dispose of them properly. There is a diagram on the inside of the case showing how to install the new batteries -- put them in according to the diagram. Then reattach the case and screw it back on.

Turn the calculator over so you're looking at the front side, then press OFF, then ON/C, then ON/C again. Verify that the calculator turns on and everything works okay.

The calculator is intermittent: Most of the time

Not knowing what to do, I tried anything that could possibly help:

I installed fresh batteries and I pushed the reset button on the back of the calculator (Sharp EL-546L) and finally, it work all right after more than 5 years I own the calculator and where it did work correctly for 5 minutes. I tried the reset button in the past (long time ago) and it didn't work. This time it worked because, maybe, I've used fresh batteries.

Weird display problem.....HELPME PLEASE!!!

I had the same problem Jozhy. I fixed it by re-upgrading the OS using the latest version of TiLP (TILP2 version 1.04). When I tried it using the version of TiLP 2 that I had it didn't fix the problem. I understand that the version before the one that was released a few months ago didn't flash the OS correctly. Try it again after downloading the latest program.
