When document is scanned to email--email copy shows a large yellow band down the left side of the document--shows everytime--replaced toner--cleaned everything--willl not go away

You need to isolate the problem first. Try scanning from the ADF and then scanning by placing the document on the glass. If the error shows on both then it is likley you have an issue with the scanner. If it only shows on the ADF copy then most likley the glass is dirty and needs to be cleaned. Curious as to why you replaced the toners to resolve a scanning issue? The scanner does not use any of the toner system, it is purely electronic.

Lines on scanned and copied documents is usually caused by something on the scanner glass such as ink, correction fluid or trash. Open the top of the printer and clean the scanner glass surfaces with windex and paper towels. See this article for more details:

Sharp IR 2016 platine glass dirty


The cover plate is above the glass white surface of the scanner. If this is the same dirty stains will come out on copies.
The glass must be clean.
By feeding the original documents through the ADF, the scanner lamp is no longer the path to scan, the ADF is responsible for passing the original document over the scanner, while it remains still placed on the side under a thin glass is to a large glass side. This also must be clean, otherwise you will be black lines on each point or spot on the glass.

On a scanned document there is a line down the right hand side as if there is a mark on the paper. This is not the case and is only showing on the scanned document. How do I rectify this?


This line is being caused by something stuck to your scanner glass. It simply needs to be cleaned. The scanner glass is going to be located in 1 of 2 places. Most common is location is just to the left side of the large scanner glass. So lift up your document feeder and look at the large glass where you may sometimes place an original to be scanned or copied. Now look just to the left of that glass. Do you see a much thinner "strip" of glass? If so then clean this strip glass with a soft cloth and a bit of glass cleaner or water. If there is no strip glass located here then it will be located inside of the feeder area where you documents are fed in to be scanned. These feeder units usually just pop open. If your documents go in face up the the strip glass will be on the upper portion. More common is the face down feeding which means the glass will be on the bottom. Sometimes a flashlight is handy here. Just open up the feeder unit and look for a thin strip of glass that runs from the front towards the back. It is about 1 inch wide. Once you locate it just clean it as mentioned above. Close everything back up and give it a try.
Eccentially what is happening here is that something has gotten stuck to the glass and since when scanning, the documents are "dragged" past this glass, anything that is stuck or stationary on the glass is read as a solid line.

Have a black line on all my scanned files, runs the length of the page, about 1 1/2 inches from the left edge.


To determine if the vertical lines appearing on your printed documents are related to a printing or scanning issue, print a test page by pressing MENU, 4 (Printer), 2 (Print Options), 3(Test Print) and COLOR START.
If the vertical lines appear on the Test Print continue to Procedure A:Cleaning the Corona Wires Inside the Drum.
If the vertical lines do NOT appear on the Test Print continue to Procedure B: Cleaning the Scanner Glass.
Procedure A: Cleaning the Corona Wires Inside the Drum:
NOTE: Brother strongly recommends that customers do not use generic drumunits and/or toner cartridges, or refill their Brother toner cartridge. Each Brother laser printer is designed to work at pre-set temperatures that are matched exactly to each of our individual toner formulations. Each individual component is designed to work with the other to ensure quality and reliability. Using non-Brother supplies may affect the hardware performance, print quality and machine reliability. The Brotherlimited warranty does not apply to any problem that is caused by the useof unauthorized third party drum units, toner cartridges or toner.
A1. Power off the Brother machine using the power switch located on the right side of the machine.
A2. Press down on the front cover release lever and open the front coverby pulling it towards you.
A3. Hold the green handle of the drum unit (labeled 1). Lift the drum unit up and then pull it out until it stops.
NOTE: If you cannot pull the drum unit out, make sure that the front cover is fully open.
A4. Remove the toner cartridges one at a time, by holding the handle of the cartridge and lifting it up and out of the drum unit.
Note: We recommend you place the toner cartridge(s) on a clean, flat surface with a piece of disposable paper underneath it in case you accidentally spill or scatter toner.
A5. Lift the white plastic corona wire cover by lifting the tabs locatedon the right and left side of the cover.
A6. Clean the corona wire inside the drum unit by gently sliding the green tab from left to right several times.
Note: Be sure to return the tab to the home position. If you do not, printed pages may have a vertical stripe.
A7. Close the corona wire cover.
A8. Repeat Steps 5 through 7 to clean each of the remaining three coronawires.
A9. Reinstall the toner cartridge(s):
NOTE: Before reinstalling the toner cartridge, shake the toner cartridgeside to side.
Hold the handle of the toner cartridge and slide the toner cartridge into the drum unit. Make sure that you match the toner cartridge color to the same color label on the drum. Fold down the toner cartridge handle once the toner cartridge is in place. Repeat this for all the toner cartridges.
A10. Push the drum unit back into the machine until it clicks into place.
A11. Close the front door and power on the Brother machine.
A12. Print a test page by pressing Menu, 4 (Printer), 2 (Print Options),3(Test Print) and Color Start.
Procedure B: Cleaning the Scanner Glass
B1. For safety reasons, power the Brother machine Off using the power switch located on the right side of the machine.
B2. Lift the Document Cover and clean the following with a lint-free cloth moistened with a non-flammable glass cleaner:
a. Run your fingertip over the scanner glass of the flat bed to check for debris. If you feel debris, clean the entire glass area but concentrating in the area in which you felt the debris. (Caution! Do notpress down on the glass very hard.)
b. Run your fingertip over the scanner glass on the left to check for debris. If you feel debris, clean the entire glass area but concentrating in the area in which you felt the debris.
c. The white plastic pad located on the underside of the Document Cover
d. The white plastic pressure bar located to the left of the white plastic pad.
B3. Close the Document Cover.
B4. Test the machine by making a copy of a blank sheet of paper using the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder) and a copy using the Flat Bed.
a. To make a copy using the ADF, place the document face UP in the ADF, press the COPY mode key located below the LCD display and then COLOR START. If the problem continues,repeat Steps 2b and 2d at least 3 additional times.
b. To make a copy using the flat bed, lift the Document Cover of the flat bed, place the document face down on the scanner glass (make sure the ADF is empty) and close the Document Cover. Press the COPY mode key located below the LCD display and then COLOR START. If the problem continues, repeat Steps 2a and 2c at least 3 additional times.

Savin 2545 document feeder gives a gray band on the copies


Yes - surprisingly - we had the same problem, the gray stripe along the side of the page only showed up when the original was fed through the document feeder on top. Cleaned the small area of glass under the feeder repeatedly with no change to the resulting stripe, but then while cleaning the upper roller, above the area of glass where the scan lamp illuminates during the copying from the ADF, we found a small piece of paper adhering to the top roller in the paper path, cleaned it off, and no more band. We didn't see the bit of paper on the upper roller until we rolled it while cleaning. Still can't figure how that made a stripe....but hope this helps you.

the solution to this issue is cleaning the scanner glass below the automatic document feeder(mind you its not the scan bed that you normally use while copying) .you will get the ADF scnner glass once you lift the ADF door,you will see a 1 inch wide scanner glass.that is what you need to clean.

Lines on my copies


As the page you wish to copy goes through the document feeder, it passes the scanner as well as a white plastic band that the scanner "compares" the dark writing or data on the page to. If this white plastic band is not very clean, the scanner reads the dirt as if it is part of the image you are scanning. Try cleaning the band as thoroughly as possible, as well as the small piece of glass to the left of the larger glass on the flat bed scanner. Make another copy to test your results.

I think the scanner has crud or dust on the reader. You likely want a "pro" to clean it.

Lines down both the left side of the printouts.


good day,

this usually occurs when you print large volume of copies of documents that goes beyond the printable area of the paper, some powders stick in the roller of your printer hence making the gray streak.

you can check if the rollers have accumulated some powder, if so, have the rollers cleaned.
