Question about Briggs & Stratton Briggs Stratton Intek V - Twin Vertical Ohv Engine with Electric Start 22 Hp, 1" X 3 5/32" Shaft, ModelNo. 44K777 - 0027 - E1
If you are talking about the sprocket on the starter there is no cheap way to fix it that I know of. I've had the same problem on my 18 H.P. B&S motor on my craftsmen mower. The sprocket is a composit material and the flywheel is aluminum. I was replacing the sprocket about three times a year.I finally had a friend of mine who has a machine shop make me one out of aluminum and that fixed it.
I think this is just another case of planned obsolesence as a lot of people won't realize that the sprockket can be changed andwill buy a complete starter ***'y or take it to repair shop..
The only thing I can suggest is that you keep it tuned on a regular basis and not run the starter any longer then is absolutly needed. One other thing I have done for years on all my equipment is to run a small amount of Sea Foam in the gas at every fill.I use4-6 ounces and it really helps keep the motor clean and starting easier. Thankyou You can purchase sea foam at most auto parts stores and it can be used in the oil also. Good luck.
