Question about GE 5.8 Cu. Ft. Extra-Large Capacity Gas Dryer

Open Question

I have a GE 5 cycle automatic Heavy duty dryer. I feel heat but after more than an hour my clothes are still wet, but warm. Vents and hoses are clear. When i open the door and check as it is running, I see the element come on then off. on then off. I am not sure it is staying "on" long enough. I have used the auto regular selection more dry, and the heat drying selection high(cottons).

I just moved the dial to normal instead of more dry, and my laundry was done within 30 mins. Still would like to know why?

SOURCE: kenmore heavy duty clothes dryer will not heat

most problems with dryers not heating is the thermo fuse is blown. bout 20 buck to replace it looks like a small white flat football. but most likely if it went out that means the the high temp thermostat is messed up too

SOURCE: Dryer takes many cycles to get clothes dry

While researching my problem I did find that the dryer vent hose could be partially clogged. The hose should be short and horizontal.

SOURCE: Burn marks on clothing

The front felt drum seal may be bad. It is attached to the front panel, around the door.
Check and or replace the rear drum support it has worn down the ball and cup support. It will soon begin making a grinding/squealing noise.
When it wears and drops down the gap is greater at the front around the felt seal. Laundry gets caught in the gap and scorches.

SOURCE: GE dryer heavy duty 7 cycle, just finished drying

Check to see if you can spin the drum fairly easy. Also, try to leave the door open, hold the door switch in, and then start the dryer and give the drum a spin to see if it starts.

My dryer is an Inglis, heavy duty 6 cycle, 4 temp, autocycle that is about 7 years old. Recently it just heats up but does not dry the clothes. They are steamy hot but wet. I checked the vent, it is not...

It sounds like the blower is not forcing air through the dryer. I would start by turning the dryer on and checking the vent exhaust to see if there is a good healthy air flow where it vents to the outside. If there is not good air flow, start back tracking the air flow for obstructions or other problems. Check the lint filter to be clean, check the air piping to be clear, check the blower to be clear and functioning.

GE 5 Cycle Automatic Heavy Duty Extra Large loud noise

All ge dryers have a center bearing on the back side of the drum and drum glides on the frontside. The glides make a scrubbing sound when bad and the drum is hard to turn. The rear bearing does a squeak thang when the plastic bearing wears thin and begins to make metal to metal contact between drum mount and rear bulkhead mount. It is an easy fix but the drum gotta come out. here is my pictorial page that shows how with videos and repair pix:

Turn off the electricity to the dryer.Try spraying the belt with automotive belt dressing inside that goes around the bucket.. If that does not work it is probably the bushing at the back of the dryer. you will have to remove the bucket to grease the bushing.if it is still good. judging by your details it seems good. But it could be dry.Needs lubrication.
