SOURCE: Honeywell HZ517 Baseboard Heater

This troubleshooting approach may be sound, but you need a deep security star screwdriver to open the heater up. I have looked in specialty tool and electronics shops and no one has a screwdriver that gets in deep enough. You won't go anywhere without this screwdriver, so if anyone can suggest a source, that would be great.

SOURCE: Replace three wire thermostat with four wire thermostat

From the two red and two black wires (and the specs in the pdf), your new thermostat sounds like it's designed to directly control the line voltage (120 or 240) to the heater. That's the usual way baseboard heaters are controlled.

Could your wires be red, black, and (old, yellowed) white, the standard colors in a 3-wire power cable? Just the red and black should be enough to control a 120-volt heater so I don't understand what the white would have been used for. If it were my heater I'd take off the cover(s) -- with the power off, of course -- and find out what those wires actually connect to.

SOURCE: Honeywell thermostat won't regulate temp properly

Is there a setting on your thermostat that makes the unit stay on for 10, 15, 20, 25 minutes after you reach set temp. You can change this setting by looking at your manual for the thermostat. Not sure if there is one for this thermostat but mine has one. Mine was running 15 min after set temp and making it cool down 2 degrees lower than set temp. Hope this helps.

Okay couple questions here because either you have hot water baseboards or you have electric baseboard heaters.
- if the system is a hydronic baseboard heater fed form main boiler, usually this means your space heat is controlled by a zone valve which the zone valve is controlled by your thermostat.
-if you find the zone is controlled by a zone valve than it is possible the zone valve is defective causing hot water to bleed past the zone valve even though your t-stat is telling it to close.
- first find out what excatly the baseboard is heated by either water or electricity
-next personal message me and I can walk you through it

Replacing WHITE-RODGERS manual thermostat with 3 wires ( red, white, blue and installing Honeywell electronic thermostat RTH110B, how do I connect it? The heating is not central, baseboard heating.

I have only seen one Honeywell thermostat that would work with a 3-wire heating system.

I would replace it with a White-Rodgers 1F80-0471. They are about $100, but they are a good thermostat, and they work well with the 3-wire zone valves.

Most other thermostats have the "Y" terminal that you need, but do not control the zone valve correctly.

should have 24 volts @ t-stat. if tis is a boiler system it could have air in the zone that stays cold. bleed the radiator out and this should get the heat into the area you want.

Want to replace analog Honeywell thermostat with digital

Your system uses 24 volts and that thermostat should work. You should only have a two wire system and that should work using the RH and W connection on the thermostat. My personal opinion about that thermostat...I don't like it. It will timeout for 15 minutes after furnace does not fire up. I deal with this thermostat all the time because that is what they install in the new homes. I always have to pull it off the wall, remove the batteries and wait for it to completely drain power becuase it does not have a reset switch. Very irritating...Might be too complicated for your application.
