I have a boston Whaler with a 25 hp yamaha 4 stroke, 2001 model on it. Engine ran fine in the river, brought it how and found the engine would not crank, absolutely nothing when you pushed the engine mounted start button. ** I disconnected the positive lead from the battery to the engine and started troubleshooting with an ohm meter. ** In the course of troubleshooting I noted that the 20amp fuse in the small black holder mounted below and to the rear of the solenoid had blown. **I replaced it with the on engine mounted spare. **When I started to reinstall the positive battery cable I noticed that there was obviously a current draw as there was some slight arching when the power cable contacted the positive battery terminal. **Since I have switched this motors controls from tiller steer to a wheel steer i have left the start switch on the engine but moved the kill switch and an on/off switch to the small center console. **Both the on/off switch and the kill switch were in the engine off position. **Other info: Obviously something is drawing current so i have left the battery unhooked. BTW the engine now does start and run when the starter button is pushed. I had noticed the day before that when i was test running the engine the evening prior to going out that my electronic tach stopped working. After noting the small sparks i tried disconnecting a few things and noticed the sparks stopped when the red wire to the ignition box was disconnected. ***Any clues as to what is wrong here??

The neutral safety switch is located in the shifter housing.

SOURCE: 95 F150 wont crank

the starter should be replaced. The solenoid is kikcing the pinion out but there is no contact being made to turn the starter motor. I have the exact same truck and before i changed the starter used the old starter tap trick. Tap the starter casing with a hammer and it should start turning again. hope this was helpful for you. I think for sure that the timing belt has jumped a tooth. This can happen if your water pump, or your idler pulley, which are driven by the timing belt, "locks up" for a second. Best advice: replace the timing belt (you should not "reuse" it, as once it slips a tooth, that tooth is now weakend. Also, check the feel of the water pump impeller-gear...if it feels gritty or does not spin freely, replace the water pump while you are in there. It's not much more work. Also check the IDLER pulley for the same feel. If it feels bad/does not spin free, replace it. One or the other caused your problem.

SOURCE: Have Exmark 52 LazerZ with Kohler ch25 engine.

try looking for a broken wire or a wireing harness shorted to ground, the fuse blowing in the harness will lead you to it if you are able to see where the wire goes. you have a short somewhere may be the fuel pump, too

25 hp evinrude e-tec I dewatered the engine but unable to dewater the fuel system it was underwater for about 1 week I had 3 lights on the control unit has it running for about 30 seconds


Put plenty of Fuel stabilizer in your tank which absorbs water back into the fuel as a suspension.. Try and remove every pipe in the fuel system and blow it through. Try and get it running with EZEE Start. Also check the plugs again and warm them up with a blowlamp before replacing them.

Google 'Boston Whaler' and 'Unsinkable Legend' :>) I filled the back of an 15 foot, 1986 Sport with water three times.

There is a Facebook page called Everything Boston Whaler. There is a guy on there who is a prop expert if you fancy changing props?

Apart from that, were the previous engines two stroke? They have much more power for weight ratio. Your Optimax are heavier, but are much more economical and much easier to start.

I have a lowly Optimax 60 in place of an Evinrude 70 on a similar Boston Whaler. The new boat is slower.

I have a 1998 model E25RMECA I NEED TO KNOW WHAT TYPE GAS TO USE IN IT. AND IF IT IS 2 CYCLE OR 4CYCLE.


I found a mixture of sites for the information
one owner of a 1998 25 hp evinrude says that it is a 2 stroke with a fuel mix ratio of 50:1 as 25:1 is a bit smokey
another site says that the recommended octane fuel rating is 87 although it might run better on 91
best advice is to find an evinrude service dealer and get the right information as the later 25 hp units are etec engine which will be 4 strokes

Yamaha 50 hp motor oil red and green oil sensor lights are on


The engine will self destruct if you continue to run it without the proper oil mixture. Some oil systems have to purged of air if ran dry. Seek professional assisstance.
