Question about Dell Inspiron 1501 Notebook

Lost internet connection on my E1505 Inspiron. Can not connect by either eithernet or wireless. Gateway modem and internet OK. Have a 2nd Inspiron that connects either way fine. What do I need to do?

Download and renew all the drivers there is outdated
here from dell:

Remember to select your operating system.

Can get router to connect to Internet


Cathy, your router does not connect to the internet, your modem does. Are you trying to use wireless, or is it hard wired like using an eithernet cord? If so then make sure the eithernet cable is hooked up properly and that it is goodIf it is good then try to connect your modem directly to your computer by using the eithernet cable. If that works then you know that the signal from and too your computer is working properly. Next go to your control panel and open network and sharing center. Go to set up a new connection. If that doesn't work then you might suspect a defective router. By the way has it worked before or is this a new setup?

In order to help you through this you need to be more specific with what is going on with your system. What brand of router is it? Depending on what brand there is a web address you can use to be able to access your modem.

Dell inspiron 1525 not connecting to internet


Hi,

I am one of the Dell Certified System Expert.

For internet connection, there are two ways to connect to the internet. One is through wired connection (connecting LAN cable) and connecting to wireless connection (through wireless router or through wireless Modem WLAN).

For wireless check the switch located on the left side of the portable after switching check the status light located at the front left of the computer.

check the driver if it is properly installed meaning no bang(!) or question mark(?) for both ethernet (LAN port) and Wireless Device.

To check the driver go to control panel then device manager. Check the network and you should be seeing the ethernet and wireless device. If not installed use the driver cd that came with the computer.

How to check the internet connection.
For Wired connection:
First check the cable, check the LAN port in the computer there should be blinking lights, if none try to reseat the cable. Check the ipaddress of the computer and the default gateway.

This is the instruction to get the IP address and default gateway.

For windows xp
1. Click start, then choose run then on the box type CMD then click ok.
2. on the black screen type ipconfig. get the ip address and default gateway.
3. normally it will give you 192.168.XXX.XXX
4. try to type ping 192.168.XXX.XXX (this should be the gateway)
5. If you receive replies, then you are connected to the router/modem
6. then try to ping www.yahoo.com
7. if still reply then you are connected to the internet already, might be your issue is browser or security on the computer.

For vista and Windows 7
click windows then in the start search type cmd, you should be seeing cmd on the top, right click then choose run as administrator. then follow steps 2-7 above.

For wireless connection
Check the switch, and the status light, if all are checked checked the ip address and default gateway as well, the instruction is the same above.

Can't get wireless to work on laptop


You may use the System restore utility on windows by going to all programs then Accessories... Open system Tools and then System Restore. You may resotre your system to an earlier time, time when you are still able to connect to your router wirelessly.

Have you got permission to connect into her Internet using her wireless router?
If so you need to get the WPA encryption key from her to configure your wireless card's encryption to get access.

Modem and wireless not talking


If u r inside a wireless network and internet is ok, u will able to ping both the wireless router gateway and modem gateway. If u cant ping the modem gateway, u can try connect the modem directly to your pc, and test again. U need to make sure the modem is OK, and able to connect to internet. Then only u move to check router. This is due to very often internet access having problem.

A hardware error usualy indicated a bad network cable or a bad network card. Have you tried using a different Cable?

Connecting a wireless router to Tiscalli broadband connection


  1. USB modem is connecting a PC USB port with a DSL phone line: CANNOT be connected to a ROUTER LAN (ethernet NOT USB port).
  2. Wireless ROUTER is NOT a modem and it CANNOT connect the Internet (or WAN) LAN port to any "phone line"

Network problems connecting to internet


Hi. If Dell is correct, then yes, it would be expensive. Your other alternative is to buy a PCMCIA Ethernet Card. They range from about $20 to $40. Or, you could go with what you suggested and do wireless via a wireless router.
