Question about Amana Refrigerators

1 Answer

I recently purchased a used Amana Side By Side refrigerator that's a few years old. I've recently noticed water on the floor around the bottom of the refrigerator on the freezer side. I don't have the water line hooked up to it so I'm thinking the water is coming from the self-defrosting process. Is there a hose or tube that I can zero in on to see if that's the problem? If so, where might I find it? Thank you.

You need to remove the rear panel inside the freezer section, inside there will be the evaporator coil/core,below this is a drip pan/drain and they get frozen over, shut off the unit and put a bunch of towels there to catch water as it thaws, then use hot water to hasten thaw, then run a piece of wire down the drain hole, you will need to remove rear lower cover to see when wire comes out there, then after you get it starting to drain, clean out drain tube with hot water and vinegar

We have water leaking slowly from beneath the water/ice dispenser unit in our Amana side by side. It is 2 1/2 years old and this is a new problem.

Hello,

The water is from the melted frost of the defrost cycle. The drain at the bottom of the back wall of the freezer is blocked so instead of the water draining into the pan where it will evaperate,it's pooling on the freezer floor and freezing, in many case when the floor indent is full the water will leak onto the floor.By pulling the refrigerator out from the wall, there will be a tube behind the service panel on the right side when looking at it from the rear, that tube can be removed and cleared, then clear the nozzle it connects to inside the freezer.

I hope this helps you to stop the leak,
Gene

Water on the floor under the freezer side of unit

It happens to all those old refrigerators. There is a shield separating the drip container and freezer through a small hole. Check if it is blocked. This won't do much of the work and may not be stopped even if you do something. If you can, have a new refrigerator.

If it's clicking on and off like you say, replace the compressor start relay device and overload protector. These are located directly on the side of the compressor, usually contained within a dark plastic cover.

Amana side-by-side fridge freezer only cold at the bottom

yes the evap fan in the frezer should be running when the compressor is running[it may not for a minute or so as it starts up.Amana's are good for the connectors at the evap fan motor comming apart.the connectors are white and will look like its together but when you pull it will come apart.i would always cut the connector out and use a wire nut so wont happen again.if any other questions please email thru FixYa and i will be glad to help. God bless ,tom

Freezer and fridge not cooling properly

Clean it up. Check under it and behind, clean ,vacume and or blow out all dust and check the fins on the bottom, a soft brush and portable air compressor work really well but very dusty, take out side if possible, or just vacume really well.

Dirty ice

Did you change the water filter recently? If so, you may have some air in the lines which can be purged with a few minutes of dispensing water through the front.

It may be that the door was completely closed at some time this will cause this fault, or you have a defrost sensor fault. Regards Advisor
