Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

No more sound

First, I'd check to see if the headphone jack still worked. If not, then the sound chip on the motherboard is probably shot. Next, I'd get a 'live' linux cd, like ubuntu (http://www.ubunto.com). This will run the linux os right from the cd without installing anything. If you still don't get any sound, it's almost certainly a hardware issue. Replacing chips on a multi layer circuit board is no easy matter. Your best bet if the sound hardware is dead is to get a USB sound card.

Mouse will freeze using Ubunto linux

Hook the mouse up to another computer. If it works without freezing then you'll need to go into Ubuntu and see what programs start up when you go into Ubuntu and disable some of them so it frees up memory.

If the mouse freezes up on another computer then the batteries are going weak and you'll need to replace them.

No sound from you tube videos, other sound on PC just fine...............

There are 2 likely problems:

1 - Next to the "play" button below the video, there is a speaker icon. Hold your mouse over it and a bar will appear. Make sure the slider isn't all the way over to the left.

2 - In the bottom right corner of your desktop, next to the clock, there's another speaker icon. While youtube is open, right click it, and select "open volume mixer." Check that the slider for internet explorer (or firefox etc. if you use it) is up the top - you may need to scroll across to find it if you have several programs open

1) Boot your PC
2) when the grub menu appears, use the down arrow to get to the menu option listed as (rescue system)
3) when the text-based menu appears, choose a menu option that gets you to the root shell, then following the instructions mentioned in this link: http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/black-screen-while-starting-x-window.html. Debian instructions will work for Ubuntu.

All you need to do is boot from the windows xp CD and follow the onscreen instructions. It's fairly self explanatory; the CD explains it very well.
