It works for a while when it starts up, then suddenly stops working
completely. Tried reinstalling drivers, no work. At random times, it
would go back to norm, but symptoms resume when comp is restarted.

Re: Keyboard doesnt work....
May be something spilled on keyboard or maybe loose cable under keyboard.
Some keyboards can be easily removed either with catches at front below space bar or sometimes screw on underside releases the keyboard. Others have a sliding plastic bar above keyboard which then removes to release keyboard.
Find keyboard ribbon cable and check it is in socket OK on mainboard. If not, gently prise up each end of the socket which will release the ribbon cable - push ribbon cable down into socket - press down socket edges to trap cable into socket again.

Since you have reinstalled the OS and it didn't fix the problem. It most likely your computer having one or more hardware failure. You need to check each of your computer component to find where is the problem.
Try to power drain the machine first, unplug the charger/ac adapter and battery.Press and hold power button for 10 secs then put the battery back in and plug in charger.Check if keyboard will respond. Try to connect a usb keyboard to be able to access windows or use onscreen keyboard. Then try to go to device manager. For xp, start->right click on my computer->hardware->device manager->keyboard. for vista, start->type in device manager in start search ->keyboard. Try to uninstall and reinstall the driver for keyboard then restart the machine. If this doesnt work then you might need to replace the keyboard. If the system is under warranty then you can have the machine service by the manufacturer.Hope this helps...
This sounds alot like a virus i once had! try a system restore to the point before these problems occured. if that doesnt work run a full virus scan. If that doesnt fix the problem you may have to wipe the hard drive completly.
