Question about Sony Alpha DSLR-A100 Digital Camera

1 Answer

When I turn on the camera, it will AF once, then nothing. None of the menus will work, none of the functions work, cannot review pics. If I switch to manual and back to auto, it will AF once. I can take a picture in manual. As soon as I take a picture, I can use the menu or review pictures, but only once. Battery shows to be charged. I have taken it to 2 camera shops and they have no idea.

The problem is in the systems control board, "controls vital areas of the camera" from your description the operation is intermittent when switching from manual to auto, it indicates an hairline crack in the systems board, a tough problem to nail down. The only option is to send it to Sony for assessment before actual repairs are implemented.

I have identical problem with my A100. Have read several others with same problem. Sounds like a recall is in order.

I had a memory card in my d40, took tons of pics, but none were there upon review. Is it the card?

Check to see if you formatted the card as some cards are sold not formatted and some require it to be formatted in the camera before use. Check your manual.

After deleting photos from the memory card, it now says "card not initialized", when put back into the camera, none of the functions seem to fix it, can you help?

If your pics are safely on your computer, follow these rules: 1. Never erase pics using the computer...always use the camera. 2. Never remove anything from the computer USB ports without using the "safely remove hardware" function. 3. Now, your card needs to be formatted in the camera.

Memoyfull how do i empty it

You should have a pic review when the canera is powered on. Some cameras have a review only power switch that allows the screen to view pic s but not turn on the camera. there should be a delete button that once you are reviewing your photos you can delet one at a time or it will say "delete all" click delete all and enter to delete all. if you can find no review or delete buttons they will be in the main menu. Good luck!!

Auto focus suddenly stopped working

This may not be the same as your issue, but our AF stopped working as well. I tried all the recommended fixes - removing the card and battery, recharging the latter, removing the lens and cleaning the contacts, etc. None of those things worked. However, I then switched to MF, requiring me to turn the barrel, and I realized it was stuck and just needed a little force to get unstuck. Might have been the humidity. Anyway, our problem was solved - AF was back to normal after that.

Buttons on camera won't work.

I finally got the menu button to work by firmly pressing downward on the mode dial while turning it. Once the menu opened, I went to set-up and initialized all settings. This action reset all the settings to default and now all of the buttons are working.
