Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I am using a Dell StudioXPS 1640 model Laptop with a 4GB RAM and 320 GB HDD. My laptop has not been switching-on since last 2 days and when checked with the Dell Service station, they mentioned that the SMSC IC has been burnt and the Mother Board has to be replaced. I would like to know if there is a possibility of just replacing the IC alone. Regards Subash Chandra

As a rule when something goes wrong with the motherboard it is best to have it replaced, because quite often there are secondaries problems that are not evident, I strongly advise you to follow the recommendations with the Dell Service station, they are highly trained and you are in good hands when it comes to telling you what is required. The fact that the ic was burned suggest other parts that have been compromised. I think you will find them reluctant to follow along, and chances are they will not have the ic to try.

Can the LG Xnote RD405 laptop intially with 1gb RAM be upgraded to 4 gb using two 2gb RAM's ? Please help me by providing an answer clearly, Thanks in Advance.

Here is the memory specifications from LG.

Maximum Size: Each slot is 1024MB and can be expanded to 2048MB.
SO DIMM Type for Memory Expansion: DDR2 SDRAM SO-DIMM (256MB, 512MB, 1024MB)

It can take a maximum of 2 gigabytes of ram. It will take two 1 gb sticks. It uses DDR2 laptop ram. You need to check to see if you have one stick that has 1 gb or 2 sticks that have 512 mb each. That will tell you if you need to buy one or two sticks of ram at 1 gb each. You will be able to tell a difference going from one gb to two gb of ram. I think it would be worth the investment if you plan on using the computer for another year or more.

Sir my inspiron laptop b130, intel pentium processor 1.70 mhz 598 mhz, it is suitable for upgration r not? ram 1gb. 40 gb hard disk.? I need 2 gb ram and 500gb usb hard disk for oracle applications...

Max RAM for that system is 2GB
http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=Inspiron%20B130&Cat=RAM

The question is whether there are 500GB hdds for that system. The largest PATA HDD I found was 320 GB
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4600076&CatId=2675

and there is no guarantee the BIOS will recognise a HDD that large as PATA HDDs require BIOS support for the drive size where SATA HDDs will pretty much work.
My recommendation is to retire this system and BUY a new one.

My laptop is very slow properties:4 GB of RAM VGA 8400 GS 320 GB of HDD what can i do for make it fast.

Sounds like it could be a virus slowing things down. Run a virus scan online at TrendMicro.com

Also, download CCleaner and clean out temporary files.

Laptop shows only 4gb ram & 300 gb hdd

This is the limitation of a 32 bit (x86) Operating System. A 32 bit OS can detect upto 3GB RAM only.

You may either try installing the x64 Bit of XP Operating System or Vista Service Pack 1 or 2 for 32 bit Vista Operation System to resolve the issue.

After installing the SP 1 or 2 of the Vista OS in the Computer, the OS will detect 4GB RAM.

Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The first one, of course. The only diffrence is the screen size and for 10000 coupon I do not think that it is worth getting a larger screen.

Go for the first one, dude.

Can i upgrade my MT3705 to 4GB RAM?

If you get rid of Vista and put in 2gb of Ram your Laptop will not need 4 gb of ram.  You need to get it will not support double sided or ECC this is why you can not have 4gb you need 2GB kit (1GBx2), 200-pin SODIMM, DDR2 PC2-5300 memory module
