I used the self cleaner the other day and now my maytag gas oven will not start

the problem with the self clean feature is the oven gets up to 1000 degrees, this can and will over time damage the electronics in the oven, usually it takes out the clock assy. this is where all the oven functions are that control the oven, most likely this is what got damaged, after all the things i've seen working on ovens i will never self clean an oven,i use easy off,if you do use the self clean don't use it near holidays or any family functions,if you take out the clock assy. the day before say thanksgiving and the clock has to be ordered you won't be cooking for that time send the full model number off of stove, usually you open the bottom draw under the oven door, look on the left side or right and you'll see a tag on the frame with model and serial numbers, you need the model number to order parts.good luck with your stove you can go here put your model number in to look up parts

I have no manual. When i hit clean nothing happens. Help. A little hesitant because of gas

This is the manual for a Whirlpool oven, Page 14 has the self clean instructions. Your unit may have a manual latch that initially locks the oven door close and as the clean process starts a second lock is activated preventing the door from being opened.

The second link is an article that describes pros and cons of using the self clean cycle. My experience has been on three occasions that repairs have been necessary after the self clean process so I do not recommend using it.

Kenmore Gas Range

Hey Alan- 'Self clean' sells. Techs call this function 'self- destruct'. Depending on age and number of previous 'clean' cycles, the control may have developed errors, or lockout switches may not function. If inside is thoroughly scraped, and bottom pan checked, removed, and cleaned if necessary, oven should work fine. Preventitive drip pans and a lot of aluminum foil keep the 'Self Clean' Gremlins away. Hope this helps- Thanks- ED

I have no users' manual and would like the basic instruction for the self-cleaning function

The only thing I can offer is this: Most electronics cannot recover from the extreme 900 degree temp of self clean cycle. It is therefore recommended not to use the self clean on newer models. Why not get some oven cleaner and do it the old fashioned way?

Self-cleaning gas oven

Door lock motor has probably failed.....Self clean on many
ovens can be a self destruct mode. Door latch motors, sensor
probes and even the electronic controls can be destroyed by
this operation. On many freestanding stoves the lock motor is located in the right rear (looking from the front) with a long rod connected to the lock. remove the motor and unhook the rod from the motor cam. Sometimes bending a coat hangar into a hook and sliding from the right side into the lock you can unlock the door.
