Question about GPS Devices

4 Answers

Dear Expert Have Navman N40i which has only had sparse 6months usage. Tends to switch itself off when in slowmoving traffic and leaves you in the mob looking for streets!!!! It won't re activate unless the little switch at the base is operated. It has now completely frozen in programming trips and no longer has audio including the gongs to indicate exceeding speed limits as set up. The battery life after charge appears extremely short. Please help! My mobile is 0407393801 located somewhere in South Australia. Thankyou, Barry

Can't change battery. Sealed system and to break into it would null any warantee. Problems still exist when the N40i Navman is operating on car battery supply. Some bigger internal problem than just the battery. Barry

Hi,

To my knowledge, the battery is supposed to last 4-5 hours (depending on usage), might it be then a battery problem. Since the unit is fairly new (6 months), perhaps you may want to reconsider reaching your dealer/point of purchase and request a replacement.

Alternately, you may want to consider a cigarette lighter adapter/charger.

As to the freezing, other that the tiny switch to the right of the gold connector strip which is the on/off, there is no master reset. This switch isolates the battery and allows the N40i to force a hard reset.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

The problem you are facing is due to a bad power supply.

i would recommend you to replace your batteries.

If your gps is still under warranty contact your dealer or navman for repairs.

The battery life could be extended by switching to a new battery but if your device is still covered by warranty that would void the warraty if its inside the device.

the battery is inside the device and is not easyly replaceable, but can be replaced.

The touchscreen has just stopped working. Is there anything to check or update to use as a fix?

At the bottom of the N40i is a small switch with 1/0, switch it to 0 (off) position, before switching back to 1 (on) keep your finger pressed on the silver "on" button at the top of the unit and this will reset your Navman N40i

Lack of power

Is it the power cut-off or the fact that you are not moving?
The Auto-off feature will turn off the unit when no movement is detected. Meaning, when you come to a stop and do not move for a minute, two minutes, or what every amount of time you’ve set, the until will turn itself of saving you power. You can also set this for the DC power cord. Mine is set for 5 minutes.

Navman N40i compatability with Vista

Solution to get GPS Navman N40I working with Windows Vista.

I solver the problem (most of it) by uninstalling the old activsynk witch was delivered with the manufactory CD. Then I downloaded from “http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/help/synchronize/device-center.mspx” Windows Mobile Device Center. After installing this software I connected my Navman N40I to my PC and waited to for the Mobile Device Center application to load. When it tried to gain partnership with my GPS I removed it. Voila, and the SmartST Desktop 2006 SE application was able to communicate with my GPS.

Hope this will help you!

Kind regards
Mega A

Does the car charger cord plug into the cradle? or just straight into the unit (despite resting on the cradle) ? Do you know if anything else charges via the car charger?
