    Hi Taran_2005

    Questions I need to ask.
    1) which is the magic key
    2) Is the magic button the same as the magic key

Up until now I have assumed the "magic Key/Button" is the DVD ( or TV) button which in fact flashes 3 times, and doesn't flash again therafter.
By now you will realise I am not having any joy having tried inumerable times to follow your guide ( the verbatum response I also found myself on the web )

If you can't help with this method, can you suggest an alternative please. Chipping perhaps?

If so where do I go and how is it installed

Hello John,

I don't know what you've been told, but you can only convert this player to region free using a programmable universal remote made by One-for-All. This cannot be done using the Sony remote supplied with the home theater / Blu-ray player. In addition, this player can only be made region free for DVDs - not for Blu-ray discs.

If you have a programmable One-for-All universal remote, please let me know and I will explain the instructions for unlocking the player in more detail. If you don't have one of these remotes, you will need to buy one before you can unlock the player. Only certain models of One-for-All remote are suitable for this purpose.

Please let me know what remotes you have and we'll go from there. Please do not attempt to apply any instructions you've been told to the Sony remote.

You should also note that unlocking the player will invalidate any warranty which is still in effect.

    Hello John,

Sorry for the delay in replying. I've only just logged in. I don't think you can use the Philips remote for switching the player to region free, but I need to check on this. If not, I will provide details of which remotes can be used for this purpose. Essentially, you need a remote which can be programmed with specific commands that can be sent to the Sony DVD player.

I will get back to you shortly.

    DILLIGAF Mar 23, 2011

I forgot to check - was this player bought in North America (USA or Canada)? If it was, you cannot make your player region free.

Need to know this before I advise on remote controls.

Region codes required for DVD's from England.

Hi its better to make your DVD region free, please follow these steps:The internet has made it easier to purchase obscure foreign movies on DVD that aren't sold in this country. DVD's have region codes so they will only play on certain DVD players. For instance, US DVD's are region 1 while Europe and Japan are region 2. The only way you can play a foreign DVD then is to purchase a region free DVD player or make your DVD player region free.

  • Get a DVD player. If you purchases a DVD player, make sure you purchase a DVD player that people have had success in converting to region free. If you already own a player, you will need to note down the make and model of your player.Step 2
  • Look up the DVD hack for your player. There are several sites that feature DVD hacks. Two popular sites are DVD Exploder and Video Help. Simply look up the make and model of your DVD player and check to see if there is a hack.

Can I play a dvd region 2 dvd on a Philips 5 disc changer 783c dvd player? its a uk release of a german film. The DVD player gives system menu selections stating many nationalities

just because it may have many languages does not mean it is multi-region.

what you need to do is search for "region free hack" and the model of your player.

If there is one for your player the process takes less than 30 seconds to do (did on my single play philips which is region free whoo hoo)

beware though you may have to spend some time finding the free codes and there are a lot of sites out there that want to charge for this info (dont pay just persevere)

The method is usually power on the dvd press eject whilst holding down a key combnation until a menu comes up then selecting 0 ZERO as the region or somthing similar there are variations even from the same manufacturer.

I disagree with the whole region scam and do not class hacking a dvd player as any form of piracy. its simply allowing me the freedom to choose what i watch from whatever country i want.

My Panasonic blu ray player DMPBD 30 does not play region B blu ray discs. How do I unlock the region codes?

The region codes or unlock hack for this model is not available, if you want to make it region free then you'll need a universal remote like a pronto remote or a One for all remote and then would need to enter the HEX codes to make it region free. It can't be done with the factory supplied remote.

You can buy a pronto remote from this link---

    Pronto Remote

    Pronto remote hex codes

Please ask for any clarifications and accept this solution if found helpful.

    1. Using the remote control open tray
    2. Press 0, 0, 0
    3. Region selection will appear.
    4. Select 0 for no region (ie. all regions)
    5. Press pause button on remote control.
    6. Turn Unit off and back on again.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

    How to unlocked region code

XD-DV480 Multi-Region: Converting the player to an alternative region:
    • Supply power to the unit and power on from standby mode via the remote
    • Wait until No Disc is indicated on the fascia
    • Now press Pause followed by 3, 4, 2, 2, 9 and then 2
    • The display should now read CODE
    • Now press 0, 0 for region free or 0 then 1 for region one, 2 for region two, and so on (Note: RCE discs will require specific region set)
If the above modification fails to work then the alternative method below may work:-
    • Connect the DVD player
    • Use the Remote Control to turn power on
    • Wait until No Disc appears
    • Press Pause and type the following code, 8, 9, 2, 6, the display will show "CODE__"
    • Within 5 seconds press 00 for all regions
    • Press Pause and Power
    This should work for you.
