There should be a lever that will loosen the tention on the belt so you can get it off. be sure to put the new belt on with the arrows facing the rotation (some sanding belts do not need to be oriented this way, but check) otherwise the belt will come apart after a few rotations.

I need a drive belt for a Stanley belt sander

Unless there is a model that I have never seen, the sandpaper is the drive belt on belt sanders.

Towel caught in front roller

Well, it sounds like you have a belt sander. I would start by sacrificing the towel and the belt. Even if you tried all day and were able to save them they would probably look like they got caught in a sander. Get a utility knife and change the blade, you will want a brand new sharp blade for this. Start by cutting as much of the exposed towel off as you can. Remember, at this point the only thing you might be able to save is the sander. Cutting off the belt will relieve the tension. When you cut the belt give yourself enough belt on ether side to get a good grip. You might need to pull the belt back and forth as you remove small pieces of the towel. A good pair of pliers might help grip the towel fragments. When you finally do remove all the towel and the belt, take some time to look around the drum for fibers that might be stuck in the bearings and pull them out. You may need needle knows pliers for this. Keep the towel shreds for sating rags to finish the project you're working on so it will not be a total waist.
Good Luck

Anyone has a broken belt sander 54-7240-8 within Canada? I could use a particular part from it to fix mine. If you do, email me at mstevlik@zoznam.sk
Thanks.

The sandpaper keeps sliding off the sander everytime I turn it on. Even when I turn the dial it to tighten it or move it over it keeps on sliding off.

You need to turn the dial slowly. If the belt starts to come off turn the knob in the other direction, slowly until the belt is centered. Doing it slow is the trick.

How do you replace he belt on a 7447 Sander

To change belt:
1) Put front roller on floor and push down until roller locks back.
2) Put on new sand paper.
3) Loosen tracking screw until front roller is released.
4) With sander running, use tracking screw to center belt.

My Model # 362 Belt sander keeps breaking belts after just a few minutes of continued use. Why?

This is usually indicative of someone pushing down on the sander too hard while sanding. The motor in this sander is strong enough to pull the belt around even with too much pressure on the sander. This causes excessive heat to build in the sanding belt and sander shoe which causes the belt to break down prematurly. It's also very hard on the sander's bearings and motor. Use an appropriate sandpaper grit that will do the job without excessive pressure on the worksurface. This will make your sanding belts and sander work longer and cooler.

Sandpaper sliding off

there isnt enough tension on the belt, hence the side to side movement. keep tightening the spring until it stops
