Question about Yahoo Messenger
Hi, I am greg084, a certified Yahoo Power User and I'll be attempting to find a solution to your problem. thank you for choosing FixYa.com for your troubleshooting needs.
Have you tried the registry fix recommended in yahoo answers?
Some virus can cause this bug in Yahoo Messenger. Check your Internet Options, go to Security Tab, and see if there is a new item. Normal items there are Internet, Local Intranet, Trusted sites, and Restricted sites. If you see a new item, chances are you were hit by a virus.
To resolve this, open a registry editor (click Start, click Run. On the Open box, type: regedit and then press Enter). Navigate to the following key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft\ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Internet Settings \ Zones
There should only be 5 items there, numbered 0 to 4. If you see a different one, especially if you see items that shows up as box, try deleting it. (Backup your registry first). If you were able to delete that extra item, this might fix the bug, and you will be able to see the chat messages again in yahoo messenger.

WARNING: mistakes in editing the registry can cause serious system issues including instability and failure to boot. ALWAYS back up your registry before making changes. If you are not comfortable using regedit or third party vendor registry tools, it might be in your computers best interests to seek qualified assistance.
I have not personally tried the above fix, but a quick check of my registry reveals that there are indeed 5 entries in that particular key and I can forsee no harm in the suggested remedy. If this doesn''t work, feel free to seek additional help from the qualified experts here at FixYa.com.
Thank you for your inquiry and good luck

Try this solution.
Open RUN. Type REGEDIT then ENTER.
Look for this registry KEY.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Internet Settings > Zones >
You will see folders numbered 0 1 2 3 4 etc...before that 0 foldder, if you see with a box type character. Delete that folder.
Close and restart your PC.
If not try uninstalling messenger and reinstalling.
Please let me know if this work.
Thanks & Regards,

CAN’T SEE TEXT IN INSTANT MESSAGES?
This is an issue that is cropping up more and more. If just a new problem try exiting Yahoo Messenger and then relaunching it. Even try rebooting your computer. If both those fail to solve your problem then try the suggestions below.
1) The first thing to check is to make sure you have scripting enabled in Internet Explorer. Internet Explorer is integrated into Yahoo Messenger so things that go wrong with IE can affect Yahoo Messenger. Here is the yahoo help page about that: http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/messeng...
2) In the Start Menu click on Run. Type, without the quotes, “regsvr32 jscript.dll” and then click OK. Next, repeat the process but this time type in the Run box “regsvr32 vbscript.dll” and click OK. Please note, if you are using Windows Vista temporarily disable the User Account Control (UAC). You can easily turn it back on. On the Control Panel (Category View) choose User Accounts and Family Safety, next choose User Accounts, and then click Turn User Account Control on or off.
3) If the above does not fix your problem and you are using Windows XP, you can update your Windows Script to version 5.7. In my experience helping others, this is the step that has helped the most people. Exit all browser windows and chat programs including Yahoo Messenger before installing. Here is link from Microsoft to update that:
Or you can do an internet search for Windows Script 5.7 and choose the Microsoft link.
This version of Window Script is already included with Vista so you would not use that link. There is also a Windows Script 5.7 released for Windows 2000 and you can find that here:

Okay, here you go - Try this…:
Go to Start - Run - regsvr32 jscript.dll - OK
Start - Run - regsvr32 vbscript.dll - OK
It should work.
