Hi,

Welcome to Fixya. Since the Battery and the AC Adapter is new there's no way it won't charge. The power is running to the charger as indicated by the green light however the problem seems to be coming from the motherboard since the socket of the AC adapter on the laptop is connected to it. If you still have the old battery try to charge it using the new AC adapter and if still won't then most likely the board is bad due to the bad socket of AC adapter which is embedded to it. If the system still have warranty then dell can repair it free of charge if not you need to bring it to a Service Center to check if they can repair the socket or replace the whole board.

If you have questions please let me know. Thanks for using Fixya

Here's an example of a bad power connector of a motherboard that needs to be replaced.

It seems to be that you need to check it or someone need to check it

And here's the service manual if you need to disassemble the system.

Christine - I see so it means that the problem is on the board itself. This is not a quick fix it's either you need to send it to a service center so that they can check what is causing the problem aside from the power connector and fix it or replace the motherboard with a new one. I have a suggestion it is better to bring the machine to a Dell service center since they are trained and familiar with the part of the motherboard and it is easy for them to fix it.

They can also advice you whether to repair the motherboard or replace with a new one. Sometimes if the board become faulty and they repair it, It can cause other problems due to wear and tear. Thanks

Hi, I have a inspiron 6000. 6 years old but works like a charm. Only problem now is the adapter won't charge [not an adapter issue as it works on other dell laptops]. And after the battery has...

Remove the battery and replace it, test. If this does not work, attempt to power on with the AC adapter plugged in and no battery in the system. If this works, you have a bad battery. If this does not work, watch the light on the ac adapter. If the green light goes out when you press the power button, something more is wrong with the system. Further information is desired. When you press the power button, do any lights on the system light up? Do the fans in the computer turn on? Does it make ANY noise? Finally, if available, it is desirable to try a different and known functional AC adapter.

Problem of charging the battery

Check battery indicator. If OK, update BIOS. If no change, check battery bios info, if AC Adapter is incorrect, replaces it. Please comment if the information provided has been helpful for the improvement of my support assistance. Thank you and regards.

If a new DELL ac adapter (3rd party Adapters are not recognized and the charging circuit is disabled) and a new battery doesn't resolve then the charging circuit on the motherboard is bad

I had the battery not recognized on boot up. then

the Dell AC adapter has a sensing pin so the bios can determine the wattage of the adapter. If the system cannot ID the adapter, the battery charger circuit is disabled. You'll need a functional DELL ac adapter to get the battery to charge

Inspiron Battery Light Flashing Orange

Battery.

Dell has a chip internal to the battery programed to shut down after a certain number of charge cycles. This means every time you plug the laptop in with the battery installed. When it reaches this determined number the battery effectively shuts down, even though technically it's still good. There have been loads of complaints on the net toward Dell over this issue. I have myself experience this. Battery good one day, powered down, went home, powered up... only to receive the deadly flashing light. Only cure is to replace battery. Several hacks trying to get around this but they're all horrible. Bad Dell - bad, bad Dell!

On the issue with th ebattery on the 1521 inspiron. Took battery out and plugged in still will not power up. Could it be the adapter as well?

On the ac adaptor, look for a green light that will turn on when you plug it into the wall outlet, if its on that means the ac adapter working. If you get a green light on the ac adapter but then the green light goes away when you plug it into the laptop then that means the laptop has a bad motherboard.

If you plug the ac adapter into a wall outlet and get no green light then that means the ac adapter is bad and you would need to get another one.

Dell inspiron 1100 wont stay on

Normally the battery light will rapidly flash orange if the battery is defective. It will alternate between orange and green if it is too hot to charge. Or it will either flash orange or be a steady orange if the battery is low or completely discharged. Based on this and the fact that you cannot get it to stay on for more than 7 seconds, I would have to say that you need to recharge the battery by plugging the laptop into an AC outlet. After all, it can't run without the juice.

Power issue

Is the new power supply a Dell. Some aftermarket power supplies, especially Targus, will not charge the battery in a Dell. If it is a Dell supply, then it's one of two things. 1- the battery is shot and needs replacing. 2- the power management chip on the motherboard is shot and the motherboard needs replacing. If the battery light is flashing orange then the battery is shot. If the battery light is green, then go into the power settings and see if the machine shows that it is charging. If it doesn't show that it's charging then it's the pm chip.
