Question about Washing Machines

Open Question

My washing machine is Hitachi PAS 123 model. Very Old indeed but working. Not automatic. The problem is that the washing agitator ceased rotating to both sides instead it turns to only one side. What could be the problem?

SOURCE: Everything is working except the spin cycle

Sounds like the spin coil/brake solenoid is burnt out or broken. This is a coil situated on the motor plate under the machine with a lever attatched to it. When the machine goes into spin cycle, this solenoid pulls the brake away from the outer drum to allow the drum and agitator to spin together. The shaft that goes into this coil should move in and out freely. If tight, replace spin coil/brake solenoid.

Drain line clogged on Whirlpool model ET1CHMXKB09. How do I access the drain line?

Hello.

Washing machines, like any other mechanical device, occasionally needs servicing. A common problem with most old washing machine is that the spinner, or agitator, drain,or stops rotating during wash cycles. Fortunately, most washing machine problems are easy to troubleshoot. Any do-it-your self offer can fix it; here's how.

TOOLS NEEDED TO SOLVE PROBLEM ARE BELOW.

Bucket and rags,Screwdriver,
New drive belt (if necessary),
New drive motor (if necessary).

1 Unplug the washing machine, and turn off the water supply to the machine. If necessary, remove the water hoses from the back of the washing machine because they may be in the way of the access panel.

2 Check that the agitator is seated correctly by opening the lid of the washing machine. If it's loose, pop off the top of the agitator--if there is one--and tighten the bolt that holds the agitator in place. Or, in some models, simply pull straight up and then reseat the agitator.

3 Remove the access panel located in the back of the washing machine by unscrewing the screws holding it in place. This allows access to the drive motor.

4 Press on the drive belt that works the agitator. If the belt moves more than 3/4 inch, tighten the belt to fix the spinner problem. If the belt is worn or cracked, replace the belt.

5 Replace the drive motor, if tightening or replacing the drive belt doesn't fix the agitator. Purchase a new drive motor at a wholesale retailer. Disconnect wiring, remove screws holding motor in place and insert new motor. Screw into place, and connect wiring.

6 Check for any black substance leaking under the washing machine. This might indicate a clutch problem, if the washing machine spinner is not working. Contact a professional repairman to replace the clutch.

Thanks.

My washer works fine just no agition goes though cylces just fine fills and drians fine but agitator does not move

80040 dog kit is all you need. The upper portion of the agitator has four dogs mounted inside. As the transmission moves the agitator back and forth these dogs catch the side of the upper agitator. This rotates the fins and makes the clothes tumble on top of each other forcing them into a downward motion. When the facing of the agitator dogs wear smooth the upper agitator will cease to function.

Old Kenmore gas dryer Model 870692800 aka lady Kenmore Ultra fabric Care blower works, warm air enters chamber, but canister(?) holding wet clothes does not rotate. Ran a load of clothes earlier in day,...

if the tub will not agitate i would first take out the agitator, (there may be a bolt in the top holding it onto the transmission shaft), and check the top of the agitator to see if the splines are stripped. try to run the machine without the agitator on the shaft and see if it will agitate. if it is a case of the machine not spinning out the water after the wash cycle, you may have a burnt wire from the control magnet assy. at the bottom of the gearcase. there are 2 bars and 2 solenoids with 2 wires going to each one, these wires can break or burn off and the machine will not go into a spin mode. hope this helps.

Tub rotates CW during agitation, out of balance, hits side of metal cabinet, but no error code

Hello srcoray,

Did you replace the clutch, just trying to get a feel for your hands on experience with the machine? If you did the work did your machine use the upper roller clutch bearing along with the clutch pulley mounted roller clutch bearing?

The FAV6800AW uses a reversing motor and motor controller that powers the motor and clutch pulley to rotate CW in Wash/Agitate cycle and CCW in Spin Cycle.

In Wash/Agitate cycle the roller clutch bearing should rotate freely CW allowing the agitator shaft to drive the transmission in wash cycle driving the tumblers to rotate only not the wash basket. In spin cycle the roller clutch bearing will lock up (one-way roller clutch bearing) driving the spinner shaft to rotate the wash basket and transmission CCW. Unless my thinking is wrong it sounds like the one way roller clutch bearing is frozen or dragging and not rotating freely in wash cycle rotating the wash basket CW. I’m an owner like you and will try to help.

Just a few other questions;

If you have a load of wet clothes in the wash basket and you select Spin Only cycle will the spin cycle complete with out dc/UC errors?

With the lid raised can you rotate the wash basket CW? It should not; it should only rotate CCW and do that with very little resistance.

Rich

Agitator on my washing machine is not rotating the way it should. It seems something is not catching and the piece is only rotating part of the time.....please help. ps How do I remove the agitator to see...

Remove the cap off the top of the agitator. Then remove the 7/16 bolt below. Your problem is inside the top part of the agitator. YOu need to buy an agitator dog kit. When the part is removed you will see how to put it in.
