Question about Toshiba 50H82 50" Rear Projection Television
I have a Toshiba 50H82 HDTV rear projection, with what looks like a convergence problem, but only the green gun and only in the vertical! tried the Touch Focus, and I get a red message on screen that says "Touch Focus Error", the picture is still displayed with a skew on the green color, almost looks like a 3D picture without the funky glasses to make it better! Any help in appreciated, I have a electronics background (not television though) so any technical work I could manage.

Even if the pix appears to be "OK", the internal convergence alignment (in servicer mode) must be accurate within certain parameters for the Touch Focus function to complete w/o error. Adjustments should be done in "Full" mode, both HD & regular signal.

Also,check micro fuses F851,F852,etc.
and with a good digital meter, check resistors feeding B+ to
I have been using Stk392-110T made by Toshiba with no re-calls.Hitachi also has an upgrade IC.
And be sure to check your soldering of IC pins--good connect,
with no short.....T.

You have a problem with teh convergence circuits. This can be caused either by defective convegence ICs or even bad connections at the pins of these ICs. I would first resolder the pins on the ICs. If that fails, replace them. That should resolve the problem. These ICs are large and black, attached to a heatsink and are marked STKxxx. There should be 2 of them.

may i suggest reading the ariticle the fl231 problem in my tips and tricks section of my profile. YOu MAY have a 5 dollars 30 minuter fix. Determine if you have the convergence option under the setup option of the customer menu. if you dont then congratulations you have a simple fix. i you do have the convergence option and the autoconvergence then you might have other problems. and will have to troubleshoot further. If so ill talk you through some more. THIS set has NO stk convergence ics. my feeling is the fl231 which i see alot on this perticlar model at the shop

You might try setting in manual convergence and see if you get the same results. If so, YES, I would say that you possibly have to replace the convergence amps Q751 and Q752... That unit takes two stk392-110 Sanyo amps. When you buy them don't get knock-offs for some cheap price or you'll do the job twice. Order from someone like ACME in Florida. You can up the amp rating to 150's or 180's if 110's aren't available - but 110's will work just fine... Check your return resistors out in front of the amps also for any deviation in value.
You might also check for the presence of your -32v at Q783 and if missing replace it also - but from what symptoms you're describing it may only be the convergence amps..
Be glad to send you the manual, just email me personally and give me enough info as to what you need - I get nearly 3000 emails a day so "send me the manual" will not be enough to jog this old man's memory..
