SOURCE: Philips Home Theater Speaker Wire (can it be cut?)

Sure you can, Joel.

Put the speakers wherever they will go, and cut the wire from the speaker to whatever length you need to reach your wall terminals. Leave some slack so you can move the speakers if needed. Strip off whatever length of insulation you need to make the terminal connection. Note that the speaker wire will have some kind of polarity marking. There will be a colored stripe or other mark on the insulation, or the conductors themselves may be different colors (usually one wire is copper, and the other tinned so it's silver colored). It doesn't matter which you use for positive as long as you're consistent and use the same one for each speaker.

At the other end where the prewiring comes out for your home-theater system, splice the connector ends you cut off onto the installed wires, following the same polarity. I recommend using an appropriate size insulated **** splice to make the connection. The crimper and splices can be found at auto parts stores, Radio Shack or most hardware stores. It's quick, reliable and makes sure there are no bare wires to short out.

Plug the speakers into the system and you should be good to go. Whip up some popcorn and enjoy the show!

SOURCE: How to extend speaker cables of Philips MX6050D DVD Home Theater

Go down to your local RadioShack or any place that sells wire of any sorts (heck, even Walmart might carry it now) and ask them for speaker wire. I'm not sure what the impedance of this particular model is, but you should be able to find it printed on the back of the speakers, or in your user's manual. This guide will help you to identify what size speaker wires you need, that way when you go in looking for speaker wire, you'll at least sound like you know what you're doing.

SOURCE: Need the code for Philips Home theater system model HTS6500

  • I will list some codes. The manual for this remote does not list a theater system at all. That does not mean one of these code will not work. It may be a bit more challenging to figure out which "heading" the code exists.

  • Four codes are listed for a Phillips DVR/VCR Combo from the manual for this remote.
  1. 145
  2. 067
  3. 101
  4. 034
  • DVR Receiver code
  1. 001
  • There are some codes marked under "Audio" as well.
  1. 249
  2. 250
  3. 063
  4. 805
  • Here is the manual as well http://www.universalremote.com/resources/pdfs/avex_manual.pdf
  • Please keep in mind that it is completely possible that the remote you have may not be compatible for that home theater system.
  • Should this be the case you can get a universal remote that is very inexpensive (often times less than $10) that will seek and find codes removing the seeking number code trouble.
  • These remotes you aim at the device you want to use and it finds the code for you, hassle free.

  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.
Regards, Tony

My philips hts3371d burnt because of wrong voltage

This is quite serious as unless the fault is checked the depth of the damage cannot be assesed. It can vary from a shorted capacitor , rectifier or driver regulator to a serious issues where the mother board and processor is affected. So take a consensus and estimate before we can proceed.

Have you contact Philips customer service and described your problem? I would suggest you start with them. If your outlet is supplying voltage and the unit is not turning on chances are there is a fuse inside the unit that is blown. The unit would not be hot because a small amount current is no longer flowing into the unit which is indicated by the led light no longer being lit.

I have a Philips HTS 3371 DVD home theatre and can not play many DVD's as it give wrong region error. Can you please provide the unlock code and how/where to enter it to get it fixed?

Hi -

Please follow the instructions below for unlocking your Philips HTS 3371

Please note: Unlocking a DVD player may invalidate the warranty. Unlock sequences may not work with some firmware updates and some DVD players have been damaged through failed attempts to unlock them. Unlocking your DVD player is done at your own risk.

1. Switch the DVD player ON
2. OPEN the disc tray
3. Key 9 9 9 9 0 using the Philips remote control supplied with the player
4. Press PLAY. The disc tray will close.
5. Switch the player OFF then switch ON again.
6. To test, play a disc from a region which was previously locked.

If it does not work the first time, switch the player off and back on, then try again.

This is a verified unlock method, but I was unable to confirm whether it works for players sold locked to Region 1 (North America). If you have a Region 1 player and the method above does not work, you will not be able to unlock your player.

Regards,
BElectric
