1) Check your computer to see that it has a CD or DVD drive that is capable of burning CDs. This drive may be built into your computer or an external drive. Either type should work equally well.

2) Make sure you have a CD that can be burned. There are two types of CDs that you can use.

3) A CD-R (Compact Disc-Recordable) is a Write Once Read Many (WORM) optical medium. This means that once the disk is burned it can not be erased. This type disk is usually used for permanent storage. For example; a music CD, a picture CD, or any other type of data that you want to keep permanently.

1. A CD-RW (Compact Disc ReWritable) is a rewritable optical disc format. This type of disk can be burned, erase, and then burned again. This type disk is usually used for temporary data storage.

4) Decide on the type of CD you plan to burn. There are many different types of CDs that can be burned and how you proceed depends on which type you are going to burn. The major types of CD that can be burned are:

1. Music. This type of CD is the type of CD that is normaly burned for use in a home or automobile CD player.
2. Data. This type of CD is most often used to store files that can be used by a computer. This type of CD can not be used in a standard home or automobile CD player. They are formatted using the "ISO9660" format, which cannot be read by a standard CD player.
3. MP3. This is a data CD containing only mp3 compressed music files. Because it is actually an ISO9660 data CD, not all CD players will be able to play it. This type of CD can contain a much larger number of songs than a music CD but can only be played on a computer or CD player specifically designed to play MP3s.
4. Disk image. A disk image file is a file that contains an exact copy of a disk. The most common type of Disk image is an .ISO image. Disk images are usually used for storing an exact copy of a CD on a computer. By using a computer, one can burn a CD from an .ISO image and create a usable CD.
5. Ripping. Ripping a CD is the process of taking the audio off of one CD and either storing it on a computer or burning it to a second CD, thereby making a copy of the first CD.

5) Decide on the software you want to burn your CD with. There are many different programs that are designed to burn CD's. Some are built into the computer's operating system, while others are individual programs. These programs range from very simple to very complex. Some of these are free, while others have to be purchased.

6) Burn your CD. Burning your CD is as simple as running the software that you are going to burn your CD with, putting a CD into your CD burner, selecting the data to be burned, and then telling the program to burn the CD.

You need a burning software to burn your picture files, music, or video.
You can use NERO Burning ROM. Download it from HERE. You can use the "Data Burning" Feature in it to transfer your files into CD or DVD.

Can I transfer cassette tapes to this unit?

Not in the same format as on the tape. They would have to be converted to digital music files such as MP3 first. That would require audio capture software on the PC. Then, once you have the music converted, you can burn it to the CD/DVD.

IAM USING SONY CD..FOR TAKING PICTURES..AND NW .WHEN I WANNA COPY THE PICS IN MY PC..THE PICS R NOT GTNG DISPAYE??..WHAT CAN I DO TO VIEW THE PICS IN PC???

Hi,
camcorders will usually record videos in Tape/cd/dvd and the pictures will be saved on to a memory card, if available. So if your camcorder is having memory card then your pictures may be saved on to it. So remove the memory card from your camcorder, put it in any laptop card reader and transfer the pictures in it.
I hope this solution is useful to you.
Thanks

Windows Vista Movie Maker

The file you saved just tells your computer where to get the picture files and sound files on the slower computer. You need to copy those files also. The program should ask you where you saved the picture and sound files on the faster computer.

Transfer Email to DVD R

Save the email to your desktop (File - Save As). Put the blank CD or DVD in. Go to My Computer and open the DVD drive. Make sure the window isn't maximized so that you can see the desktop. Drag the mail file into the DVD drive window. Windows may process the file for a few seconds. In the DVD drive window click "Write these files to CD". It will burn file onto the DVD.

you cant transfer those to cd without doing the process of Burning them to the cd/dvd.

if the pics/vids are already there on your computer, use Nero as your burning software and burn them to a blank cd or dvd. the process is simple enough. there are ways on how to burn images to a cd or dvd with nero.

CAN I SAVE MY HD TAPES TO DISC AND PLAY BACK AS HIGH DEFINITION?

At this point, unless you have a blu-ray or HD-DVD burner in your computer (and equivalent player), then you can't save HD to a DVD and have it play back in a regular DVD player. You should be able to transfer the HD video through firewire to the computer, but you might have to wait for a while until you can burn them to HD compatible DVDs. The only other option that I know of is to encode the HD video using a DivX codec (http://www.divx.com/) and just burn the file itself to the DVD, then if your DVD player can play DivX files, then you should be able to play it back on that.
