Question about Fisher and Paykel Fisher Paykel RH361 36" Wall Mount Range Hood with 3 Speeds and 600 CFM Power

3 Answers

I have an RH361 hood. About a month ago the lights started shutting off by themselves. Then, the fan would no longer come on - when I press a button the button will temporarily light up and there is a click, but the fan never comes on. The lights continued to work for a time after that but they would continue to shut off after just a few minutes. Finally, one bulb burned out, followed shortly by the other two. The buttons are still illuminated and when I press one it flashes green for a second, but there is no longer any clicking sound as though the fan is trying to come on. No lights, no fan. I've verified that power to the unit is good.

How hard is it to swap out...? Would I need to solder anything?

  • Brendan O'Brien Mar 22, 2011

Ahh - never mind, I just cracked it open and it is definitely the power control - it's ticking when I hold the fan power button down, and there's a large blue box on the board that looks like it has been burned. Also...looks like no soldering just clip connections. Easy swap! I'll order the part today. Thanks!

  • Brendan O'Brien Mar 23, 2011

That seems to be exactly the thing that is not working - the "blue box" that's in there looks like it has been scorched, and it's the part that is ticking when I try to turn the unit on. Where could I find a replacement...?

  • Brendan O'Brien Mar 24, 2011

Thank you - "burned" is probably a strong word; it's discolored but I think it's from heat - it's very hot when I touch it, but I think that's because I had just spent a few minutes wiggling connections and pressing the fan or light buttons so it had been ticking incessantly. I did order a new PCB from Fisher Paykel, but since I've got nothing to lose right now I am going to try desoldering it and see what replacing it does...that would be a heck of a lot cheaper than the $141 Fisher Paykel liberated from my wallet!

  • Brendan O'Brien Mar 29, 2011

THANK YOU - I got the new PCB today, The board is scorched - the relay is very, very hot. I just ran the blower for about 10 minutes and the relay on the new board was not hot. Also noticed that I can now keep the lights on at the same time as I run the blower - I could not before, so presumably this thing wasn't even working right when I got it. I noticed that the board is a new version, V3 as opposed to the V1 that was in mine (different color board). It's working great. Thank you - you (all) saved me a lot of money in a service call.

In this unit the fan motor and the lights are electronically controlled. Since all of them failed it means that the control board has failed and it will have to be replaced.
You can find one here, including a diagram

That blue box is an electromechanical relay. Unsolder it, take it to a hobby/electronics shop and get an identical replacement. Or, if you can identify at least its voltage and amp settings, you can order a replacement from here
    http://www.hascorelays.com/electromechan...
But a relay doesn't burns by itself, it gets burned by the failure of other component - most likely the motor (the part controlled by the relay) - has failed. You will have to check it also and replace or repair it.

  • Azrael SRL Mar 24, 2011

And find out what is the status of the motor - if it overheats then the current flowing thru it is too great, which means that there's something wrong with the motor. You could try to bypass the relay and power it directly and see what happens.

Hi, you should be having a problem with the power control mechanism which is one of the common problem with the RH 361. Try opening up the unit and you will find a blue box on the board, unclip it and replace it with a new one. This would solve the problem......

Taillights wont work, flashers work and brake lights work

The "Fisher and Paykel Fisher Paykel RH361 36" Wall Mount Range Hood with 3 Speeds and 600 CFM Power" doesn't have tail-lights, but you probably knew that.. ;)
On all vehicles the tail lights are a completely separate wiring than the brake and flashers. Look at the fuses for tail lights rather than brake, turn signals or emergency flashers. The tail lights many times use the same fuse as the dash lights, so look for those fuses too.
The bulbs could be bad, but it's seldom both side would be out at the same time.. also look at the wiring, though this would be difficult to trace on most autos.

Fan start running by itself

many microwaves will turn the fan on or off by themselves, when there is excessive heat they kick in and attempt to clear the air (in so many words) when this happens you can not control the fan, the microwave will not respond to off commands until it has determined there is no longer a need for it.how long has it been on?is your stove on?many times smoke alarms are tied in- are they properly functioning?if all fail you may need repair -as you should be able to control this function of the device! good luck more question just ask

I have the same exact issue and i only have it for less than a month. It is very difficult to turn in on again without having it connected to the cable. Even though the battery is charged. The way i found to make it work was to start the laptop with the cable connectedand then disconnect the cable after the windows has started.

My remote car starter won't start the car when I press the remote button. The red light flickers on the remote, but the car won't start. I don't know the brand it is because it was a gift three years...

There may be several reasons that the remote starter fails to initiate. Here are a few things to check:
1. You may have a shut off switch, usually located under the dash. It would be a small toggle switch under the driver's side of the dash, or in the driver's kick panel (where your left foot would rest when driving). It may be labeled on/off. This is one of the more common issues with the remote starter failing to initiate.
2. There may be a hood shutdown pin that is no longer making contact with the hood. Look around the edges of the engine compartment (the metal portions) for a metal push pin or, a black plastic tipped metal push pin. Push the pin in and remote start the vehicle. If the vehicle starts, adjust pin upwards to make contact with hood when it closed. This is another common problem. Lube Techs lean on, bend and break these pins when working under the hood.
3. Make sure that the remote is still programmed to the system. Press other buttons on the remote to see if the parking lights flash during lock and unlock commands.

Acer labtop won't start...but power light is on

Seems your laptop is overheating.
When it overheats, the laptop shgutsdown as a defense mechanism, to protect important parts like processor.
Check the fans and remove all dust from them with a vacuum..
If that doen;t help, you;ll need to perofrm a deeper cleaning of the heat sink and apply a fresh heat transfer compuond at the CPU.
You mention you have your laptop since 2006.
I would say its about time for a deep clean up

Sony KDF-E50A10 stays on for 15-20 minutes then shuts off power standby light flashes green and turns back on. Replaced bulb about 6 months ago with sony bulb. Any ideas. Thanks

The reason this happens the most is because of the lamp being weak. I have not seen anything else cause this problem. You can varify this by turning the set off and wait until it shuts down totally.
with the Sony remote, press the display button, the #5 button,
volume down button, then power button. This puts you into the the factory error code mode. If you see the lamp code with multiple errors and no other errors shown, the lamp is the problem.
Most of Sonys lamps have a aprox life of 3000 hrs. Some last longer and some shorter.
I hope this helps,
