My guess is you're in the start-up loop, where every time you start your PS3 you get a message about a corrupted hard disk with only the option to restart. Restarting just brings you back to that message, however.

You could attempt to boot up the PS3 in safe mode and restore the file system (should delete any corrupted data). Describing how to start up your PS3 in safe mode would just be confusing, so instead here's a link to the official page on the PS3 Safe Mode feature.

Follow the instructions, and then I'd say try options 3 (Restore File System). If that doesn't work, try 4 or 5 (Rebuild Database or Restore PS3 System).

If all else fails, you could just replace the hard drive. The PS3 uses standard 2.5inch SATA laptop/notebook hard drives (5400 or 7200 RPM). They can be found online at any computer parts website; for example, Tigerdirect.

Hope it all works out!

First of all if it has that yellow light that comes up it means it has had a hardware malfunction so in order to fix that there are many videos on youtube that require thermal oil buy in order to do that you will have to break the warrenty seal on the ps3 which voids any warrenty and your stuck with it soo you dont have many options here. Sorry

How can I fix 8002F334 error in my ps3

I've seen this error code going around for the older PS3's. From what I can gather, it's a HDD issue that can't be cured easily. Here are the steps to take that I found, that seem to work for all PS3 systems.
  • take out the hard drive
  • connect hard drive to pc (running windows 7 64bit, but any windows os should work without other software)
  • open up disk management - in win7 it asked me to make a master boot record, so I did.
  • format in NTSF - that's right, NTSF - don't use quick format
  • shut down pc, take out hd, take usb drive too
  • put hd back in ps3, put usb stick in ps3
  • boot ps3
  • a screen will pop-up saying the hard disk have to be formatted
  • hold start + Select for 5 sec.
  • After formatting the system will restart and the update will start installing
  • configure your ps3 setup - done
  • Remember to get the latest firmware from SONY onto the USB drive.

Tip

Very important thing to know about PS3

every time you face a software problem with your PS3, always FORMAT your PS3 you will only lose your saved game but NOT the achievements, its so easy to perform, format it and use FULL format(Custom) NOT easy format after that you will face almost no problems at all, keep in mind that all the PS3 update will NOT be removed you will find that you still have the latest updates but you will have to re-update you games if they have any updates for them like COD MW2, also you have to know that PS3 Operating System is not located on the Hard Disk so if you have a damaged Hard Disk and you cant access you PS3 because of that you can easily remove the Hard Disk from the back of your PS3 and buy brand new laptop Hard Disk with any size you want so if you have 40GB you can easily change it to 120GB with no troubles and with no concerns wither your PS3 is ganna start all over again or not :) i hope that i was helpful to you guys have fun with your AWESOME PS3 and long live PS3 :)))) cheers for that

UPDATE error 8002F147

Try a low format FAT 32 in windows with "HDD Low Format" app. Make sure your downloaded firmware has no CRC errors and put it in the root of your FAT 32 usb stick. Do a System Update from the Safe Mode in your PS3. Following this steps should do just fine. Write back to know how it works.

Hard Disk is corrupted, would rather not reformat.

This is to do a factory hard reset on PS 3 all files and systems settings will be deleted and restored back to factory this should hopefully solve your hard drive a problem. depending on the system reformat clould take 3 1/2 hours do a full format as to clear
Faulty memory

1. Power Off the PS3 via the power switch in back and power back on w/switch.

2. Hold Power Button on the Front until you hear 3 beeps.

3. Then go through the initial setup and then run a full Format via System > Format.. You may need to have our AV cables ready if your using HDMI (in case HDMI isn’t detected after initial reset)

Carried out an update, but now stuck in loop

Procedure for Entering Safe mode when PS3 is caught in update loop:

When you first turn on the PS3, it will not allow you to go into Safe mode. You must prepare it for this.

link for flash drive prep:
http://www.us.playstation.com/Support/SystemUpdates/PS3/pc_update.html#update_PC

(This will not work for the drive that currently is caught in the update loop. You must take the hard drive out of the PS3 and temporarily replace it with another 2.5” SATA drive. Note: temp drive may need to be initialized… Connect drive to pc, right click on My Computer and select Manage… Then select disk Management… you will then be presented with a dialogue box that will assist in initializing the disk.. However, only initialize it… Do Not Format it!(waste of time) Once the disk is initialized disconnect it from external enclosure or shut down computer and remove disk)

From the top:

1.) Plug in PS3 and flip switch in back of PS3 to on. Red LED in front of PS3 should light up. Also, plug in Controller at this point.
2.) Hold finger to I/O button on front of PS3 – Green LED lights up
a. You will hear one beep, then another single beep, then a final beep and the PS3 will power off again and Red LED will be on
3.) Hold finger to I/O button on front of PS3 – Green LED lights up
a. You will hear one beep, then another single beep, then two beeps
4.) As soon as you hear the two beeps, hold PS button on Controller
a. You will then be presented with an options screen
i. Restart System -- leads back to update loop
ii. Restore Default Settings --
iii. Restore File System -- leads back to update loop (8002F14E)
iv. Rebuild Database --
v. Restore PS3 System --
vi. System Update -- will cause error
5.) You will then remove the temporary SATA drive from the PS3 and replace it with the hard drive that is caught in the update loo
6.) I am currently stuck attempting to Restore Default Settings and Im sure it will end in error, but i have to try all possible solutions.

i had this same problem and the solution to mine was that my ps3 was in my garage and it was too cold in there for the system to operate so i moved it into the living room where it was warm and it eventually began to work

Hey davefearon,

If you are unable to get back to the Playstation 3 dashboard, your console may be stuck in an installation loop. Unfortunately, this typically means that you would need to contact Sony to arrange physical repairs on your PS3.

On the other hand, if you can get back to the PS3 dashboard, you may want to try updating the console using your PC and a USB flash drive instead. You should be able to find instructions on how to do so in your owner's manual, or can visit Sony's support website by clicking on the link I've provided below.

Hope this helps you out.

Sincerely,
Aaron
