Question about Harman Kardon AVR 300 Receiver

1 Answer

Hi, I have a Harman Kardon AVR 300 that I picked up at a local sale. When I power it on, it switches fine to each input except the AM/FM tuner (the preset, tuning, & tuner mode buttons don't seem to respond). All other buttons seem to be working. I'm a fairly technical guy, but when it comes down to A/V equipment, I am not very knowledgeable. Any idea what the problem could be? Is there an easy enough fix that I could do myself. thanks

Hello Sir, Hi, you may try the following

  1. try cleaning the switches
  2. if this does no solve the problem, its the selector circuit. this may be digital, so you need to search the IC that selects the FM mode both with tuning. this is fair complicated.
  3. buy a cheap separate FM tuner, run it on auxiliary input.

Why does my avr 100 say OPTI.when i try to play the radio, and no sound comes out

It is trying to input a signal via the Optical digital input. You need to switch the input control on the front panel or remote to Analog.

AC (alternate current) receivers have amplifiers in them. Those amplifiers have capacitors in there. What the do is store massive amounts of electrons. What that means is if you touch one it will electrocute you. I have to recommend you take it to a tech to have this addressed. This is purely for your safety.

My harman kardon avr 110 will not play thru the fm. what do I need to hook up to make it work?

It's a RECEIVER, meaning the FM tuner is built-in. That's the only source you don't have to 'hook up'. But you DO have to make sure NO OTHER source is selected.

You don't say if it actually TUNES a station or not. Try an antenna.

No sound regardless of input. front panel lights up and functions as per inputs however also noticed pwr supply fan and internal heat sink fan do NOT turn on. Any debugging tips appreciated! Thank You...

The power supply has to be on to some extent or it wouldn't light up.

Does it tune FM? That would indicate some life.

No sound? Is it Muted or a tape Monitor selected inadvertently?

Processor Reset

In the rare case where the unit's operation or the displays seem abnormal, the cause may involve the erratic

operation of the system's memory or microprocessor.

To correct this problem, first unplug the unit from the AC wall outlet and wait at least three minutes. After the

pause, reconnect the AC power cord and check the unit's operation. If the system still malfunctions, a system

reset may clear the problem.

To clear the AVR 335's entire system memory including tuner presets, output level settings, delay times and

speaker configuration data, press and hold the Tone Mode Button (5) buttons for three seconds. The unit

will turn on automatically.

NOTE: Resetting the processor will erase any configuration settings you have made for speakers, output

levels, surround modes and digital input assignments, as well as the tuner presets. The unit will be returned

to the factory presets, and all settings for these items must be reentered.

If the system is still operating incorrectly, there may have been an electronic discharge or severe AC line

interference that has corrupted the memory or microprocessor.

If these steps do not solve the problem, consult an authorized Harman Kardon service center.

Tuner trouble

This reciver has an RF FET front end. Most manuafacturers use a tuner assembly built by another company. These front ends on these tuner assemblies do go bad from time to time, and sometimes is caused by excessive static electricity. The cost to replace and or repair this front end assembly, will most likly exceed the cost of a new unit, unless you really like it. What I have seen a few people do is buy an inexpensive reciver or tuner, and use one of the unused inputs to play the AM/FM through the reciver that does not work on the tuning. Good Luck Please dont forget to rate this thread.
