Question about Kenmore Freezer 13.7 cu. ft. Upright Freezer

1 Answer

My freezer makes a loud squeaking noise but it is not constant. Sometimes it is very loud and three hours later the sound goes away and everything sounds normal. I would think if it were a burnt bearing in the fan motor the noise would be constant. The freezer maintains it cold temperature. The sound is best described as a fan belt slipping in a car's engine. Any ideas would be helpful

It's probally the fan motor. Sometimes adding a drop or oil to the shaft will quiet down a noisy fan.

Freezer makes really loud noise

You need someone to check the fans and where the noise is coming from before the repair cost you a lot of money because of damage it can cause. The fan may be hitting ice in the freezer or out of balance because it is worn out. No one can hear what you hear and someone will need to be there to check these things out, Sea Breeze

Check the condenser fan (outside at the rear) and check the coil isn't baking hot. Electronics or board wouldn't cause your symptoms. Check the simple things first!

After loading freezer a loud buzzing sound started

Is it coming from inside the freezer or outside? If outside either the auto defrost timer is a problem. If the noise comes from the compressor, almost certainly the starter relay inside the electrical cover needs to be replaced. It can be purchased at most refrigeration outlets. If coming from inside, you need to defrost the freezer properly for 12 hours then restart. The noise should go away then.

Locate what is making the noise. There is a fan in the freezer behind the rear cover inside. There is a fan underneath accessed from the rear behind the cardboard backing. The compressor is also there with a starter/overload relay which could make the noise.

My kenmore freezer is making a lous noise that

Is it still cooling ok - or is it going a bit weird ?

It could be the flow control solenoid - that affects where the gas goes - or the compresor motor (big black thing).

If it does not cool at all - it will need a new run capacitor on the compressor.
If it seems to cool ok - but sometimes too much - then suspect the solenoid coil / control for this.

Neither are that expensive.

Noise

When the freezer goes into defrost mode, some thumping/popping noises can sometimes be heard as the defrost heater melts the ice built up on the evaporator. Quite normal.
