Question about Brother GX-6750 Typewriter
If you hold down the ALT button and then hit a number key to access the function printed above the number and it just prints the number, then the ALT button is not working, usually because the contact is dirty. you can remove the keyboard and clean the switches. to do this - first remove the two screws behind the platen, in the holes. then pull apart the case slightly, and gently, where the cord storage area is on the back of the machine. while doing this locate the latches on each side of the machine (inside) in the middle of the opening, on the top of the case, and pry out on the bottom of the latch, carefully, with a long screwdriver until it releases and the case starts to come apart. do this on each side. now the case will be fastened only at the bottom of the keyboard. to unfasten the four latches here you have to push down on the case, right under the keys, and pull outwards at the same time. if you don't do this properly some or all of the latches will break. now that you have the case off and set aside, you can see the latches that hold the keyboard down. pry these outward while pulling up on the keyboard, untill the keyboard comes loose. now you have to pull the keyboard cables loose from the cirduit board. the flat cable at the left just pulls straight out, to remove the other cables, first pull up on the white part of the connection the cable are plugged into, then the cables will come right off. to dissasemble the keyboard, just pry the plastic latches at one side of the metal plate on the back of the keyboard, and work your way across, untill you get the plate off, pull the rubber pad off and clean the contacts with microfiber cloth or lint free cloth and alcohol then assemble parts in the oposit order. or take it to a repair shop or get a new one.
