Connect the ethernet cable from your router to your computer. (basically don't use wireless)

Go to Start -> Run -> Type "cmd" (no quotes)

A black box should then appear, type "ipconfig" (again don't use quotes). You should then see something where it says Default IP.

Most likely 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1. It does not matter if it's different. Go to Internet Explorer type the Default IP into Internet Explorer address bar http://192.168.0.1

It will most likely prompt you for a username / password - If you do not know the username nor password - try looking it up your router in the list on this website http://www.anameless.com/blog/default-passwords.html and use the username/password they suggest.

If that doesn't work - Unplug your router's power cord, and press the reset switch found on the back of the router. Leave unplugged for a few minutes, then try logging into the Default IP address again.. http://192.168.0.1 with the username/password that is suggested at the site above.

Once logged in you can change or Lookup the WEP key. Source(s): http://www.anameless.com/blog/default-passwords.html

Linksys 64bit passphrase

The passphrase is a phrase you create instead of using hex numbers (phrases are easier to remember than hex numbers) to setup the wireless encryption key.
To configure the Linksys wireless setting, connect a LAN cable from the Linksys LAN port to the computer's LAN port. Open a browser and enter the Linksys configuration URL
http://192.168.1.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = admin
Then go to the wireless settings and configure the SSID and WPA or WPA2 encryption.
Use a passphrase to setup the encryption key

Your printer is saying that you should secure your wireless internet. Try resetting the router by holding the reset button located on the back for at least 30 seconds.

Where do I find the network key for my linksyswrt150N?

This is located under the wireless settings on your linksys. This is something you would have set up when installing the router. If you don't remember or it is confusing.. Change it. I usually use the KTIP security because you can use a normal passphrase that is easy to remember. Hope this helps

Need to get laptop connected to wireless connection

The passphrase only means that there is a security enabled on that wireless network. You are correct, you need to know that passphrase for you to be able to successfully connect your laptop to that wireless network.

If you need more help on how to get this passphrase just let me know.

hello!

If you dont remember your passphrase or network key, you need to access the router page to check the router wireless settings. make sure that your computer is directly connected to the router to check your passphrase

Step 1: Access the router’s web-based setup page
Step 2: When the router’s web-based setup page appears, click Wireless
Step 3: Click Wireless Security and take note of the current Security Mode
Step 4: You will see your wireless network key or passphrase on this window

Security Keys or Passphrase

  1. Now we will secure you wireless connection to prevent others from connecting. Under the Home tab, click the Wireless option from the left.
  2. Beside the SSID option, enter the name for your wireless network connection.
  3. Beside Security, select WPA. If you can’t connect using WPA, then select WEP. Using WPA will provide a much more secure connection that using WEP. For more information about WEP and WPA please read Wireless Security: WEP and WPA.
  4. Click AES beside the Cypher Type.
  5. Make sure PSK is selected beside PSK/EAP.
  6. Now you must get very creative. Specify a long Passphrase with a mix of upper and lower case letters, numbers and punctuation. Once again, please read Creating Secure Passwords for tips on how to do this. In this case the longer the better. Make sure you write down this key somewhere, either on a piece of paper or in a text document on your computer. You will need this information when you connect to your wireless network.
  7. Enter your passphrase next to Passphrase and again beside Confirmed Passphrase.
  8. Click Apply to save your security settings.
  9. Now you are all done securing your wireless router and network. All you need to do is connect to your network, and enter your Passphrase exactly as you specified it. I won’t go into detail on how to connect to your wireless network, as I will save that for another post.
