Question about Maxent MX-42HPM20 42 in. Plasma HDTV

1 Answer

Original problem: set wouldn't come on. After power on, within a minute, audible click, power light would go orane. Thought power supply was problem. R&R'd pwr sup. Still problem. isolated problem to ZSUS. R&R'd ZSUS, cleared power problem. Now picture problem. Unit comes on, but majority of screen black. Lower 1/8 of screen shows picture, audio present. Feel problem is the YSUS or the YDR. Just don't have voltage readings to know what board outputs are supposed to be to determine which board isn't working right.

Above is a link where hopefully you can download a service manual.
As I tell all my students when teaching them servicing, and on no matter whatever it is, one simply MUST start at the PSU, and check and make sure that the voltages are all correct, as if they aren't correct here then no where else can be OK.
remember that usually too, whenever we have a Fault, we have the Damaged component, and also the Damage DONE, and sometimes co-lateral damage too, this ALL must be found and repaired as if anything is overlooked, well this is why units fault again soon after repairs, as the engineer didn't attend to All the problems and although he got the unit functioning he didn't repair it fully.
These devices are indeed extremely difficult to service even with the correct data and spare parts so don't be too discouraged if you find it difficult.
It really is a matter of "Are my voltages correct?"

Samsung TV shutting off by itself and relays clicking

If you don't know what you're doing, don't open it up to fix it!
There are HAZARDOUS voltages on the power supply board EVEN WITH THE TV UNPLUGGED!!! The capacitors can hold a charge for several weeks!

Clicking noise can be coming from bad capacitors on the power supply board.

It's usually easier to just replace the power supply board.

Plasma tv randomly goes black

By the highly technical manner in which you set forth the problem, I can see you are far more electronically savy than am I, BUT just a thought: Is there there any sort of timer setting in the TV menu which may be cutting it on and/or off, and which you have somehow failed to notice? Good luck. . .

When you switch tv on, all is normal, but within about 10 seconds screen goes completely black (off), but sound is still audible. What can i check/do to correct above?

Back - light problem. Check and replace damaged component/s at its back-light inverter board, or replace this board as card basis. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. It will be best to replace the inverter board as card basis.

To some model sets; especially LED back-lighted types; the back-light inverter circuit will be part of the main power supply board [SMPS]. In such cases, the power supply board might need replacement. To some models sets, the back-light inverter and SMPS section circuit will be integrated at its main board itself. If so; the main board should be replaced. To some models of sets, all these section circuit will be integrated at its main board. If this is the case, you have to replace the main board.

Audio of Hyundai tv set

Some components are getting heated up most probably in the sound section due to high voltage. Either there is a failure of regulated power supply to that are or the IC or other components in the board are defective. This is a case to be handled by a qualified service technician, as the back cover has to be opened.

I've had the same "clicking but not power" problem on 2 Yamaha HTR receivers. Push the power button and the receiver lights up for a couple of seconds and immeadiatly powers down. There is an audible...

Sounds like the unit is set to shutdown if it detects a short in the amplifier. The problem can be within the supply but it is most likely in the amp section of the unit. Transistors will go out over time and need to be replaced. Find a local repair shop and have them estimate the repair for you. the cost on something like this can be in the 70.00 range depending on shop rates in your area and the extent of the problem.

Your belt is likely broken. Pop the top (held down by spring clips) to inspect. If you see it - try to lift it. If you can not lift it it is ok. If not ok, remove the front cover for complete access to the drive.

Reciever shuts down by itself

Hi, i have similar/same problem, on initial power on, you have after 3 -4 secs an audible click from inside and all is good... if you then try to change inputs either via front panel and or remote, the unit switches off. if you change input prior to audible click, ie within 2-3 secs of power on , all is good and amp works fine, until you change input etc...very painful fault.. i thought it is sensing /checking the speaker outputs and detecting short etc ,so powering off to protect.. but then just my thought, i suspect something else, if anyone has the fix and can repair , please let me know.

However, brand name manufacturers often build proprietary power supplies or make up their own color coding, so I wouldn't throw out a power supply that supplies 5V where you think it should supply 3.3V. It's more likely a proprietary design than a failure.
