Question about Refrigerators
What you are hearing is that the compressor is trying to start but can't..... And you could be right the compressor could be bad and the start capacitor could also be bad... I would try a new start capacitor or have the old one checked to make sure it is only the capacitor before I would condemn the compressor..... If you can get your hands on a 3 in 1 start capacitor you can try and see if the compressor will start also put an amp probe clamp meter to check if it drawing close to LRA on the name plate of the compressor..if it is and you have a good start capacitor then the Compressor rotor is locked up and you will need to replace the compressor or get a new or different refrigerator.... As always, if you are in doubt about what to do, the best advice anyone should give you is to call a licensed electrician or HVAC tech to advise what work is needed.
Before you do any work yourself,
on electrical circuits, equipment or appliances,
always use a test meter to ensure the circuit is, in fact, de-energized.
