Question about Acer Aspire 4520-5582 Notebook

1 Answer

When plugged into power supply and with battery, my battery light shows orange ( as if it were charging ) then quickly to green ( as if fully charged ). * When I push the power button, the aforementione, green light, goes off. Then from orange to green again. You can imagine my frustration :D Specs: * Acer Aspire 4520 * Windows 7 * Battery usually only charged when my cord was in a certain position. I had perfected the technique of charging it by learning this particular postition. * My power cord was sucked up in the vacuum my my bestie and now has exposed wires that I covered with electrical tape. That was about a year ago and it has never given me a problem.

Your battery is dying from heat. Most likely because you leave it plugged in for too long. I suggest buying a new OEM (not china knockoff) adapter, and replace the cells in the battery or just buy a new batter.

I've had very good luck with an eBay vendor named 'sib-usa'...
    Here:http://desc.shop.ebay.com/i.html?LH_Titl...
That's the link to their power adapters made for your laptop.
Again, yup, they're 'China-made', but...yup, they ALL are!
(and I've had 100% success with 'sib-usa''s products, and they have an UNREAL 99.5% positive feedback rating with eBay, after having sold more than 335,000 units!)
wow....do try them though...they ship from Jersey, so they get there within 3-5 days usually..

I have no idea why that posted 'thrice'--I'm no spastic here...I do think maybe 'fixya' could update their site to let bungles like mine be erase-able, though!

Of course they work. I never said they didn't work. I advised him to not buy one because they almost never have the right mah charging rate. You need a proper charging rate otherwise you will just kill your battery all over again from heat.

Sorry if I sounded like I was taking point against you, nicklemarr, but I wasn't--I'm actually pretty new here @ fixya, not wanting to start stepping on toes here. I can see if you thought I was countering your advice though. It was good advice.

Actually, in re-reading my advice to Dan, maybe I was trying to help the guy out--I can't see I took issue with you directly...maybe you need to check my link, as well as 'check yourself'...nothing personal, so try to 'cool it' a little with the defensiveness, eh?

What does a orange power light mean

please see the commentary. God bless you

  • The majority of laptops will display a solid green, blue or purple battery light to indicate that the battery is fully charged. Most manufacturers indicate that a laptop is in the process of charging by displaying a solid or blinking green, orange, blue or purple light. If your battery indicator light is green, blue or purple, the battery is probably functional, regardless of whether the light is blinking. If the light is solid orange, the laptop is probably in the process of charging.

Battery Error Coneventions

  • Many battery manufacturers use rapidly blinking lights to indicate that a battery's charge level is low. In general, a laptop will rapidly blink orange or red when its charge drops below a certain level until the computer is plugged into a power outlet and charged. If your laptop's battery indicator continues to blink rapidly in orange or red or if it remains red even when it is plugged into the charger, it indicates a problem with your battery or the charger.

My Sony Vaio battery light remains orange

If the laptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles and will lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% and gradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all.
OR The battery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the battery drops off to zero capacity in a very short time.
If the battery drops to an unacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced.

Dell 9400 wont show AC power icon

If the computer is connected to an electrical outlet, the about10.jpg light operates as follows:
  • Solid green: The battery is charging.

  • Flashing green: The battery is almost fully charged.

If the computer is running on a battery, the about41.jpg light operates as follows:
  • Off: The battery is adequately charged (or the computer is turned off).

  • Flashing orange: The battery charge is low.

  • Solid orange: The battery charge is critically low.
Looks like the AC adaptor is faulty.

Mac Ibook Power supply problem

On Mac iBooks the orange light comes on when it charges the battery. Once the battery is charged it turns green. Im guessing the other powersupply was aftermarket or broken. EIther way, if it starts out green - recognizes the battery isnt full - turns orange for a while - then turns green when the battery is full, then the computer and powersupply are working perfectly. Enjoy your iBook!

That usually indicates battery is beginning to go bad. Eventually it will not hold a charge and will need to be replaced.

my suggestion is that you allow the batteries to fully recharge(which only happens when the computer is fully off, when the battery is deep discharged.

that will take around 6 to 10 hours each..
