1 Answer

Every few hours or less my new gateway dx4320 freezes. I try to ctrl alt del and it doesn't respond. I then hold the power button down till it turns off. I unplugged the power cord and held the power button down for 60 seconds and it is still happening. I checked and all my drivers are up to date. Please help.

My PC starts-up said my name welcome and stays on that scree with the spin next to welcome and that's it.

Sometimes updates running in the background act that way. You can wait it out (could be 1/2 hour or more depending on how many updates) or you can try holding "ctrl", "alt" and tap "del" key and see if "task manager" opens up. If it does, it should show what processes and applications are running. That may give you a clue. Finally, you could just hold the power button down a few seconds until it shuts down. Upon restart, you may have to select an option such as "start normally". If you continue to have problems after the restart you may need to go into "system restore" mode (type "system restore" (w/out quotes) in search box of Start menu, follow the prompts and choose the restore point just before the last system change.

Per the internet site, it depends upon the model of laptop. Here are some examples:

First try to press Ctrl + Alt + Del and then click Task Manager

If it does not help, you can press and hold the power button for few seconds to turn off the system.

Wait for 1 minute and then try to turn it on.

If the problem remains, let me know

Gateway/vista black screen with no ctrl+alt+del but a nice cursor

Try this, before it boots up and just after in posts press F8, it should bring up a page where you can choose your boot option, choose "Safe Mode", if the computer does boot to safe mode there are a few steps you can do to remedy this.

First goto my computer, c:drive/windows and scroll down to a folder called prefetch open the folder, highlight everything in that folder by left clicking once on one of the icons and holding control(ctrl) then pressing A once everything is highlighted hold down the shift key and press delete, everything should now be gone, exit out of all the windows do a disk clean up, my computer right click on c:drive (your main drive) and click on disk cleanup tick all boxes and then click ok to start deleting the temp files. once finished reboot mechines and leave it to boot up. if you still are having problems or it wont boot up into safe mode post back. cheers.
