Good question. First you have to go to Garmin and download their free program called WebUpdater.

software visit Garmin website: www.garmin.com/webupdaterAfter installing WebUpdater once from the Garmin
website, perform all future software updates from your computer. Simply connect
your compatible Garmin device to your computer, then run WebUpdater from your
computer's "Start Menu" by selecting "Start",
"Programs", "Garmin", and finally "WebUpdater"
REMEMBER: It takes hours to do a complete a map update.
Unless you bought the Lifetime maps you may have to pay for current United States maps.
This could be because your datum and your posistion format. Under your menu go to setup, then units and make sure you have the correct info set in there for your area. NAD27 Canada would be the one you are looking for. Give that a try and see if it works. If it is still off, consult the manuals that came with your topo and see if it says what datum it uses.
